Its easy to drive right by Origami without even noticing that its there. But if youre looking for an authentic sushi experience, its worth seeking out. Origami is not the all-you-can-eat kind of sushi restaurant; in fact, it may be one of the more expensive in the Twin Cities. But the sushi is very fresh, the presentation is artistic, and the chefs had no problem with my off-menu request.
If you really appreciate the art of creating sushi, try to get seated at the sushi bar; whenever I sit there, I can get almost hypnotized by the speed and artistry of the chefs. The tables in the rest of the seating areas tend to be small and close together, which has the benefit of letting you sneak a glance at what your neighbors have ordered, to see if you want to order the same thing. Theres also a small-but-comfortable bar upstairs, where youre likely to have to wait on weekends.
PROS: Extremely fresh sushi, masterful chefs.
CONS: Small; may have to wait for seating

This place is very popular, so don't expect to be seated right away. The associated bar upstairs from the restaurant is the perfect place to grab a drink while waiting for your pager to blink. They have a very impressive sake list, and the staff can make reservations. If your there to nosh purely on sushi, ask to be seated at the sushi bar. Seating with the platters might be a little snug. I had no idea you could make your stomach hurt by eating too much.
Pros: sake list, fresh products

Small and cramped, I still find myself going back to this backstreet shoebox to get my 'outstanding sushi' fix. Not exactly 'private' or 'romantic', but the sushi bar and close quarters make for some interesting encounters for the unattached. All in all the best sushi I have found in the Twin Cities thus far.
Pros: Great Food, Good Service, Sushi Bar Available
Cons: , Remote Restrooms, Metered St Parking

Host was rude and had an attitude problem (misplaced air of self-importance). Appetizers came about 30 minutes after ordering. Main course came on time but was cold. Food was average--it wasn't bad yet nothing was really memorable either. This restaurant is way too cramped.
I would not recommend this restaurant and won't be returning.

Have anyone ever heard of paying 10% service charge for a TAKE-OUT MENU??? So you take out, but you still have to pay the (unknown) waiter/ress a 10%?!!
The food is at most B. In fact, what else do we expect from Japanese food. Tempura, yakiniku, bentos, variety of dons (unagi, katsu etc), udons, ramens, and sushi.......soo boring, these are basically the complete Japanese menu list.
So, do Japanese themselves keep eating Tempura on Monday, Udon on Tuesday, Katsu-don on Wednesday .... and cycle it till they die? Japanese cuisine they serve is so DEAD BORING. Same stuff all over the place.

Origami has great food compared to Nami, but the service is reprehensible. Our group ordered Origami martinis, which were delicious, but one very obviously did not contain the right proportion of ingredients. Instead of offering to remake the martini, our waitress decided it was a personal insult and slammed things down on our table and treated us rudely for the rest of the night. It's really too bad that staff attitudes were not also altered with the remodeling of the downtown Origami. I won't be back.
Pros: great food
