One of my favorite parks in the Twin Cities, for its soothing waterfall, and gently winding paths through the woods. It feels like a truly civic space—there always seem to be groups and families celebrating there. A great place to feel simultaneously connected to the community, as well as the natural world. A great place to picnic, either at the grills set up for public use, or for a more intimate picnic somewhere deeper into the park. In recent years, they have greatly improved parking and access to the area, making the experience
that much more enjoyable!

The Minnehaha Falls Park is an amazing urban park. If I remember correctly, it was designed by the same architect that did New York City’s Central Park. The flow of the park is well thought out, it goes from man-made and trails off into more natural. You will see this transition from the bandstand and picnic area, through the falls, and becoming more natural as you follow the paths along the river.
