Citysearch Editorial Review
Simply put, First Avenue is the epicenter of the Twin Cities music scene, heralded as a proving ground for the area’s ascendant hometown talent and a beloved tour stop among big-name artists from across genres. Originally built in the 1930s as a Greyhound bus depot, the building was converted into a nightclub in 1970 and has endured several mutations since then, hosting a dizzying mix of live shows, dance nights and offbeat multimedia events. Local legends including The Replacements, Hüsker Dü and Prince (his Purple Rain was filmed here) all cut their teeth on the First Avenue stage, which has also welcomed alt-rock giants such as U2, R.E.M. and Wilco over the years. Check the club calendar for current happenings.

First Avenue used to be a great venue. It was never pretty. You did NOT want to look around too closely when the lights came up after a show. However, they used to have great bands all the time. ... More >

First Ave. is a popular concert venue with both major and minor acts. There are two stages - first ave. and seventh st. entry. The place is very laid back, like a concert venue should be. They have... More >
