Treehouse is a cute little record store, but does not have a great selection. Most of the records are not dance records, which is what most of the DJs around here look for. I noticed that most of the records are oldies, and that type of thing. They also have tapes and CDs.

Cheapo Records is a place I go often when I am trying to find something that is less known as the current Top 40. Where Target, Best Buy and Barnes and Noble fall short, Cheapo picks up and embraces. If Enya had a Christmas Album, Cheapo would have it.
And it's not just CDs, they have movies and vinal as well, new and used. I can always find several items that I would buy right then and there.
The staff are helpful and have only been friendly to me.

I've shopped here many, many times. Huge selection of books, CD's, DVD's, magazines, and more. The clearance section is quite large as well. I pick up paperback books here for $1 when I'm heading out on vacation. When I'm finished with it, I leave it behind or sell it back to another used book store at the location I'm visiting.
I've shopped at different locations around the city and each has a different feel, along with different books, etc. If you don't find a book you're looking for at one location, they might have it at another!

Down in the Valley has been a Golden Valley institution for many years, but I usually shop the Crystal location.
If you are looking for ANY kind of music - new or used- they have it. Seriously. I just purchased a CD from a Finnish metal band for myself - not something you would find at Sam Goodies or Best Buy. They have a very extensive selection of Classical, Blues, Jazz and World Music. If they don't have it in store you are certain to find it in their online shop.
They also have a HUGE selection of funky gifts, books, and clothes to suit most people. They now also have a VIP club card that saves you $1.00 off any CD/DVD/Game and 5% off everything else.
As far as pricing, you will find the newest Top 40 CD's at Target for less - that's a given. But if you have a diverse taste in music you need to check Down in the Valley out.

Yeah, you read correctly. Extreme Noise Records is a punk record store that operates as a non-profit. All the workers are volunteer and all profits are put back into the store or into the local punk scene. I'm not even all that into punk and i got really excited aobut the store. It's such a cool concept and I think more stores should operate like this.
