This theater is nestled in the heart of Minneapolis' cultural area, in the uptown part of south west Minneapolis. The building is older but still looks beautiful from the outside. They always have very unique films showing--you should definitely go here if you are looking for a fun, unusual night out! Since it is in UpTown, make sure that you have enough time to walk. Parking is pretty scarce, it will probably be a few blocks from the theater. I would not recommend the concession stands--it is not high quality.

Uptown is not a mainstream theater – it has independent movies others simply don't show. I think it’s comparable to Lagoon, not better and not worse. I go there for the show and not for convenient seats or anything like that… never noticed any problems. Parking can be a pain. Make sure to show up early and get your tickets - lines often go around the corner.

This classic movie house in the heart of Uptown still stands majestic. The films are top of the line first-run independent and foreign films and documentaries. The interior is a little crusty around the edges, the sound system needs an upgrade, you wish they'd clean their bathrooms, and the employees, while film knowledgable, are full of attitude it is all tolerable because of the great films offered on the screen.

The towering green sign of the Uptown Theater serves as a beacon for the throngs of yuppies and recent college grads who flock to Uptown on Friday and Saturday nights. If you bypass the cheesy bars, cookie cutter retail outlets, and throngs of overly done-up 30 somethings, you will find one of the best movie viewing experiences in town.
The exterior of the Uptown Theater is a limestone interpretation of art-deco. Bountiful harvest motifs decorate both the interior and exterior of the theater.
Ticket prices are comparable to the other art-house theaters in town. (After-all, they are all run by Landmark Theatres.) The popcorn is passable. The real draw of the theater is its independent programming and the voluminous theater itself.
Unlike most of the historic theaters in the Twin Cities, the Uptown hasn't been divided into two theaters. The upper balcony is still a great place from which to enjoy the biggest screen in town.
The seats are a little worn, but no theater in town can provide the classic movie experience offered by the Uptown.

The Uptown is another great theater. It's pricey, but this establishment plays a variety of independent and wide-release films that aren't played at other theaters in the area. They also have midnight showings of classics and cult films, which is pretty cool, and it's in the middle of Minneapolis' Uptown district, so there are a lot of restaurants and shops to visit before and after the show.

With the introduction the Lagoon Theater in the Uptown neighborhood, the Uptown Theater had to take a back seat. The Uptown Theater used to be the primary spot for unique movies in the Uptown area. It now is regulated to after thought. However, the theater is still fun and still creates a unique atmosphere that still makes it worthwhile. Their focus is even more toward the old cult films that makes this theater hard to resist. Set the way back machine and give it a try.

If you're in the mood for an indie film or one that just isn't mainstream, then the Uptown Theatre is your friend. They have fun and funky movies that you won't find at your local theatre. The theatre itself is kind of old, but it's in a good location. They play movies like "Supersize Me", "Risk" and more. THey also have midnight showings for night owls.
