I have been a customer at Jon English for 5 years and I always have great service from to get go. Starting with the attentive front desk staff to all the stylists I have seen over the years. The stylists at Jon English are always hip to what is the new trend and have incorporated the trends into my specific style. They listen to what you have to say and make wonderful suggestions to complement your look. Prices are reasonable for a upscale salon. I would highly recommend coming to Jon English if you are looking to feel great about yourself when you leave.
Pros: Knowledgeable staff, great service

I highly recommend coming to Jon English Salon for your next haircut. I always have the greatest service when I come in for my new "DO". I never come out with same look, I trust the stylists to create a new look to keep up with the trends but to fit my own style as well. The prices are what you expect for the best- Very Reasonable. Just remember one thing, " If you want to look great, you have come to the right place".
Pros: great prices, the best haircare products
Cons: no chocolate treats

I just had the worst haircut in my life at Jon English. I went to my usual stylist and just wanted a trim, she HACKED my hair and cut it much shorter than I had asked. She also took it upon herself to add layers and texturize it to death. I went back a week later for an "adjustment" and she proceeded to cut it even shorter and uglier. I was visibly upset and all she would say is that "it'll grow back." When I talked to the manager he repeated that "it'll grow back" and I asked for a full refund - never was I offered a consult with a capable stylist or any other compensation. I also feel that the stylist who ruined my hair is always overbooking herself and is not nearly as talented as other stylist at Jon English. Regardless, I will NOT be going back and have cancelled all future appointments, and so have others that I had referred to the stylist. I now have a consult set up with a different salon to see what options I have at this point. For what they charge and the results I have seen there are MUCH more capable salons in St Paul and Mpls than Jon English.

I went into Jon English a few years ago with a definite need for a change - I was trying to grow out a huge at-home mistake I did on a whim. I left the salon with the best cut and color I have ever had in my life! I have gone back to the same stylist every time, but my only gripe is that my visits are getting further and further apart because I just cannot afford to go there anymore! My stylist is fabulous, but each time I see her the price magically rises. I recently moved to a suburb north of the cities, using this as an excuse not to go in to see her. I desperately need to get my hair done and I have even made an appointment at a tiny salon here "in town" that I am seriously rethinking. I don't think I could forgive myself if I were to receive a horrible cut and foil from this other salon, only to have to go into JE with my tail between my legs begging for my gal to fix it!! I think I'm just going to have to give in and spend the money at JE - it's simply the best salon in the Twin Cities!!

I heard my stylist Haley commenting to the receptionist before she approached me that she should have up-sold me; not sure whether she meant a more expensive haircut or trying to get me to color or what but it is extremely rude to make a comment like this, especially within hearing distance of a customer. Also, mid-haircut someone came up to her and whispered something. I think someone must have been waiting for her because she moved into turbo speed. Once she had the length cut off she asked if I still wanted layers even though I had told her I did. She just wanted to get done with me. Other than the rude and unprofessional stylist, the John English salon does make an attempt to be “high class” and professional; they have changing rooms and offer you coffee. Haircuts start at $30. I might go back but definitely not to Haley.

I have had my hair cut at JE for the better part of 10 years and they are consistently amazing - my stylist in particular is extrememly personable, talented and always sends me home feeling like a million bucks. She has worked with me through all types of moods/haircuts and I trust her like a sister. Right now she's giving me blonde highlights every 8 weeks and I've never felt better. I'd tell you her name but I'd have to kill you.
$150+ is to be expected as far as I'm concerned. The products are pretty expensive but worth it as well.

You get what you pay for, and although many have said Jon English is spendy, I think it is a fair price for such excellent skill and talent. My husband, my mother, and myself all go to Seong Huie, and she is fabulous! She is quick, consise, professional and creative all at the same time. And she is refreshingly down to earth, not something you always get at upscale salons. I moved to Woodbury, but she and the salon are worth the 40 minute drive over! I highly recommend her and the salon!
Pros: consistent cut and colors, easy to get in last minute, friendly staff
Cons: parking

I don't know how one could end up spending $300 there, but I spent $30 when I went there before tax, tip, and supplies. A normal mens haircut can range from I believe as low as $20 for someone brand new to $50 for a highly experienced person. Skill wise, I haven't seen better. I've had my hair cut at multiple price ranges and they were all good. The music is good even though I don't like that style generally (I think it's indie or alternative). The staff is also friendly, and I didn't feel any snootyness. It's a little spendy, but if you're going to a place other than Great Clips I guess that's to be expected.
Pros: Skilled, Nice, Professional
Cons: Can be expensive
