Aveda is a place where people who are students in hair care are cutting your hair. So the cut is not going to be perfect but they still do a really good job. The prices are also very good because of the fact that it's students. The people are nice but the cuts can take up to 3 hours because the students have to keep checking with there instructor.

The Aveda Institute in downtown Minneapolis is a great alternative to high priced salons. The students there are learning the newest trends in hair styles, so you'll be sure to get a great do! I would also recommend trying one of their facials there. Pamper yourself, on a low budget. Keep in mind, if you go, this is a school, so each service takes a bit longer than a regular salon because the instructor has to check over each step of the process. Give yourself plenty of time!

The Aveda Institute is a huge "beauty" school. Because it is Aveda, it is more upscale than a typical place. They offer a full range of services from cuts, colors, facials, waxing, and massages. I have mostly gone here for massages. The massages are wonderful and professional. The prices have increased a lot, and they are now close to what you can find a massage for elsewhere (in a lower range salon). You will see lots of students with lots of colorful hair! I think I had my hair cut there once, and although it turned out fine, I was scared the whole time. I guess it depends on your risk-taking level! The massage is low risk!

I must say, for a student facility, they ROCK.
I will never go anywhere else for a hair color or cut again. And it's not just the super reasonable prices that make me rave about the Aveda Institute. It's the attention to detail, the communication skills of the staff & the meticulous & thorough job that they do!
I think that because the staff is all students, and their grades are depending on how good they do, the services are perfect! I have never been dissapointed with their color, and have found it richly hued, leaving my hair saturated, plump & glossy.
The cuts are always perfect, adding style & movement and precisely matched to my hair's texture.
The wait is long, once you get there (expect to be there at least 3-4 hours), and the facilities aren't spa quality or upscale. It is a school, and you have to remember that when you sit next to a plastic mannequin head with perm rollers in it. But if you are picky about getting what you ask for and receiving knowledgable input, check out the Aveda Institute.
Oh, did I mention the prices are fabulous too? About $40 for full color services, and only $12 for a cut.

This place is all about luck of the draw the first time you go there, however, I have only had one bad experience, and it was easily fixed. This is probably the most popular cosmetology institute in the area, and with good reason. Aveda's fabulous reputation along with fast service and a great reputation all equals success for the aveda institute.
I have had pedicures there twice. They involve extensive (think 2-3 hours!) pampering and tons of care for your feet! The cosmotologists in training are so careful with what they do, most of the time they couldn't possibly do a better job!
I have also had foils done on several occasions. Once again, it does take a while, but it's worth the discount. My advice: be VERY clear on what you want. The supervisor will be hands on if you need them to be!

I have only been to the Aveda Institute once so far, and got a really nice hair cut. I did have to wait a little while and it took a little longer than a normal cut would take. I was very pleased with the quality of cut and the student’s knowledge. I will definitely be returning for additional hair cuts and would recommend anyone who need a hair cut give them a try.

If you have some time and patience to spare, head to the Aveda Institute for a cheap ($12) haircut. All cuts are performed by students under the supervision of professional instructors. Although you may be assigned to a student who has only been cutting hair (on real people) for a few weeks, this isn’t the Russian Roulette of haircuts. The students don’t take chances. If they have a question, they quickly bring over their instructors. Once, a talented instructor performed my entire haircut.
That said, almost every student I’ve been assigned to has really known what they’re doing. I am always more satisfied with my Institute haircuts than the ones I get in the “real world”.
Be prepared to spend an hour or more at the Institute, and don’t go on a Saturday. On Saturdays, the school is too crowded. I usually get my hair cut over a long lunch break.

Aveda Institute is such a fun place to go. Haircuts only cost 12 dollars! You can get a massage for around 30 dollars. It can take a little longer than usual. However, they have always done a good job. The instructors are right there to make sure everything goes well. There is a wide array of services they offer. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a place to go and get a cheap hair cut, color, or massage!
