i have been going here since i was a kid. the sevice has always been nice...i even once got horribally sick inside and they gave me and my friend our food for free. i left a HUGE tip and thanked them, watch out for the cheese... i dont reccommend this for a date..it would be hard to hear. but its great for hanging out with friends, family but be far-warned, it is SMOKING...but u can always take it to go :) :) :)

I'd never been to Matt's Bar. After hearing my boyfriend rave about it for a year and half I really wanted to try it. We decided to go one afternoon for a little date. It was a really cool dive bar! It was really smoky but if you can get past that you'll really like the food. We had juicy lucy's (of course) and fries. One basket will feed several people. The beer was cold. The food was good. I thought the waitress was being really nice until she started butting into our conversation and hitting on my boyfriend. She was at least 7 years older than him and 10 years older than me but she kept on hitting on him. It got to the point where I stopped talking and then he did too! It kinda ruined the end of our meal. Maybe it was because we sat at the bar. I would go again but I would definatley get a booth as far away from the wait staff as possible. Pros: Good Food Cons: Waitress hitting on my boyfriend... ruined conversation

Matts Bar is your "bar next door". It is located in South Minneapolis. Yeah, the decor needed to be updated in the 70's..but hey, they offer the famous "Juicy Lucy" hamburger. This is the hamburger that has melted cheese inside. If you don't wait for 3-5 minutes upon getting the burger, you WILL burn the roof of your mouth. The wait is worth it; it's a greasy treat. Don't make the mistake of asking for pickles or tomatoes..they don't have 'em. It's a no frills bar, but the burger and fries are good.

I kept hearing how good the burgers were so one day I finally stopped for lunch. It smelled "sooooooooo" good when I walked in. I sat down and ordered a "Juicy Lucy" and then almost blew a gasket when I watched the cook throw my burger on a fry griddle. There is only one way to have a GREAT burger, on the grill. My own grilled burgers at home are far better. As far as I'm concerned their burgers were below average and might make above average status only if they used a Jenn-Air grill at minimum. Unhealthy to say the least the way they are. Pros: Fries, Service, Waitress Cons: Cooking method, Small burger
