My first time visiting Murray's as many have said their steaks are better than Manny's. Having been to both now, I prefer Manny's over Murray's. I honestly want to give a good review for this restaurant as they have been in business for 63 yrs and I entirely support local Minneapolis restaurants but the over salted food really killed the experience for me. We ordered the butter knife steak for 3 and my other guest ordered a tenderloin. They were all entirely too salty. The garlic toast was entirely too salty as well.
The meat was good quality; there is no denying that. At first, our server seemed really angry but lightened up towards the end of the night when I made jokes with her. They really do care about service; the manager walked over and asked us how everything was. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the food was too salty.
Pros: Good Quality Meat, Service was Good
Cons: Too Salty

My husband and I have been going here for the last 4 years for our wedding anniversary...This last time we were a little dissapointed in our service and food! We ordered the huge appetizer and it was a little burnt....My steak wasn't that hot and it was too salty. Our server wasn't as friendly as she has been in the past! At these prices, I found too many problems! This year we decided to try Jax instead and compare the two. To be continued....
Pros: Great garlic toast
Cons: Too Salty

We ordered the "silver butter knife steak" for two and were grossly disappointed. Our server brought it out, and as she was carving it at the table, she had the sniffles. Nothing worse than wanting to enjoy a great steak when all you can think about is your server sniffling over your food. The decor is outdated. Although some people don't like the ultra-tendy restaurants, or change, but this place was just outdated and could use a good remodel. Nothing special about this place makes us want to come back. Can get a better steak at Pittsburgh Blue, among other steakhouses.

Murray's is an enjoyable way to experience an old-style steakhouse in Minneapolis. It lives up to its billing and doesn't have pretense to being anything beyond that, so if visit the website and read about it you should know what to expect. For my pre-Orpheum Theatre dinner on a weeknight it fit our expectations well.
The service was excellent and the food was served promptly. The trademark Silverbutter Knife steaks are very large so my companion and I opted for the 8 oz Dinner Steaks instead. The steaks were prepared as ordered and delicious. I am not a frequent steak eater, but enjoy well prepared quality steak and got it here. The au gratin potatoes were quite good. I choose the tossed salad which was nothing special, but my companion got a beet salad, which was good and more distinctive. The dining room was not busy early on a Thursday night, but it seemed quite roomy so it could accomodate being filled.
The main shortcoming I have seen mentioned in reviews here is that Murray's is overpriced. It definitely is expensive. Our dinner of two steak entrees, two glasses of wine, a glass of beer, no appetizers or dessert came to $92, before tip. It is not a daring or innovative restaurant and I could see that some would call it overpriced for what you get. I believe it is in the same price range as other more modern or trendy premier steakhouses such as Morton's or Manny's.
Pros: Excellent service
Cons: Pricey, limited options for steak

My dad wanted to bring me to Murray's because as he says, 'anyone who lives in MN should try it once.' When we got there, the old charm brings you back right away. We were promptly greeted by our server who asked if we needed a few moments. Once we were set, we ordered; I had the filet of beef which I requested Bearnaise sauce, a baked potato and a caesar (per the previous reviews I had to try). My dad ordered the same but with the NY strip. The caesar was the best ever and the steak- one of the bests I have ever had. For dessert, we ordered coffee and the chocolate souffle which takes 11-15 minutes to make from scratch and worth the wait. Everything was wonderful and the price really not as bad once you also add in the restaurant it's self and what other restaurants change that don't have half the charm. I do have to say, our server Shane was also wonderful- the way service should be!
Pros: The place it's self !

I was starving for a good steak and looked through the Minneapolis-St.Paul magazine in my hotel room searching for a place to eat. Just around the corner from my hotel lies an unassuming exterior. Dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, I entered Murray's and was greeted by a friendly hostess in a dress and matre'd in a business suit. Even though I was dressed very casually, I was treated as if I was properly dressed. My waitress was extremely friendly and provided excellent service. I ordered the Caesar salad, New York strip steak and a baked potato. The lettuce in my Caesar was crispy and the dressing was extremely tasty. It was one of the best Caesar's I've ever had. Next came my steak. I kid you not, it was sinfully delicious. Seasoned and grilled to absolute perfection. The baked potato was standard - nothing special but I didn't expect anything more. The only disappointing thing for me was that I couldn't take home 1/2 the steak that I couldn't finish!
Pros: The BEST steak and Caesar salad I've ever had.
Cons: A little pricey but if you've done some homework you'll know that ahead of time.

We have been going to Murray's for family celebrations for years, and they have never disappointed. The staff has always been nothing but kind, even when our then 10 year old tipped over his ice water onto the very thick tablecloth during my parents' 40th anniversary dinner. The garlic toast is to die for, and the filet mignon is incredible. If someone can top their steaks on their home grill, I would like to live in their neighborhood, and be invited to their parties!
Pros: Superb food, ambience, people-watching
Cons: Too far from our home to visit often

I still recall the exquisite silver butterknife steak grilled rare to perfection and the most hospitable and prompt staff. Also the elegant setting and decor. I have eaten steaks all over the country, Florida to California, Washington State to Arizona in every conceivable place and price range and Murray's is in the top two. Now the top one as the original Chris n' Pitts in North Hollywood, CA is no longer in business as of two years ago. Murray's is the best.
Pros: Exquisite Steak, Impeccable Service, Great Ambience
Cons: $$$$

This restaurant had the most amazing lobster bisque ever! You HAVE to try it! It is know for it's wonderful steak and the steak is wonderful but WOW. The bisque just melts in your mouth! I loved the piano and violin players. The place was beautiful with all those mirrors and chandeliers. The only thing I would change is make it bigger so that you can have more private dining. It's a little crowded. But my husband and I will definately go back. The service was wonderful. Our waiter even gave us a little history lesson on the restaurant.
Pros: food, service, atmosphere
Cons: too crowded
