My significant other and I go every time one of our birthdays roll around. I would recommend a corner suite because the view is awesome. The room feels so open and seemless. The linens are very comfortable. It's like laying on a cloud; literally. The bathrooms are very fancy and modern. Room service is excellent, the staff makes you feel like royalty. The location is perfect for us because it is near all of the bars and clubs and restaurants DT. It's impossible to get bored here. The building it's in has everything you could ever need in it. You could stay the whole weekend or longer and never leave the building and never have to visit the same place twice. There are multiple restaurants and bars, a bowling alley/arcade and a spa and a movie theater. I love this hotel!!
Pros: everything
Cons: none

Get a pop, bread, salad or minnestrone soup, your entree, and a dish of ice cream (with carmel or chocolate sauce) all for approx. $15 including a tip. Has great food and even more amazing bread, and if its busy just chow down on bread till your food comes!!! the waiters will bring you as much as you like. If you dont want to drive downtown and worry about parking you can take the lightrail. It may be slow and crowded but all good restraunts can get that way. Its great for any occaison.
Pros: great price, great food, amazing bread
Cons: ABSOLUTY NOTHING

The Sofitel Minneapolis is a very nice hotel geared towards business travelers and conferences. It is actually in Bloomington, MN, which is a near suburb of Minneapolis and I was recently there for a work conference. The thing I love the most at this Sofitel is their beds. They are soft and luxurious and you can just wrap yourself in the wonderful duvet and never want to come out again! All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room service was quick and the food hot. The conference services were also good - the food was enjoyable. The fitness room was well-equipped with free weights, weight machines and four pieces of cardio equipment. Everything about the hotel has a French/European flair to it. I believe that this Sofitel was recently renovated, the only hints of the age of the building was a very faint moldy smell in some places. It is a little pricey at almost $200/night, but if work pays for it, I'll not need too much convincing to stay there again! ;)

Although the lobby isn't the most impressive our room was very nice for a downtown hotel. The bedding was very nice and the window was HUGE. The bathroom was very nice and featured Crabtree Evelyn products! A nice perk. Super nice vanity! It was very nice. Staff wasn't super nice but still better than most hotels!!!
Pros: NIce room, bathroom and bedding!!!
Cons: nothing prominent

My wife and I have stayed at the wonderful place for many years. It is still an occasion to do so. Only one time when we checked in were we given an inadequate room (very small). As soon as I complained we were moved. Everyone is always very accomodating and welcoming. For us a wonderful weekend trip.
Pros: wonderful food, wonderful rooms , fair prices

More
Grandma's Saloon & Grill is a casual American Restuarant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as Plymouth, MN and Duluth, MN. They also have a location in Fargo. This restaurant needs to reinvent themselves. The food is so traditional it's boring, because it's not even prepared that well. The one in Minneapolis is either packed with college aged kids or as dead as can be. Maybe the Duluth restaurant is better, since it's the home of the Grandma's marathon, and it is right near the Lake. But, the Minneapolis locations definitely need some updating.

I have been here several times, mostly with large groups. Chevys has a fun atmosphere with great music and outgoing staff. I have eaten many items off the menu - they have a great appetizer tray with spicy wings, flautas and little quesadilla's - yummy. They have a "mean" steak fajita and their fresh salsa and warm chips (all you can eat) are soooo good.
On your birthday, you will be donned with a sombrero, dessert and a song. It's a great time! They also serve up hand shaken margaritas such as the top shelf , pear and melon.
