I haven't been to this store yet but today I called for info on crystal beads. The gal was extremely knowledgable (I am not)and asked plenty of questions so she could locate exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be visiting this store soon and bringing along my sister to shop. All because of the customer service offered on the phone. Congrats!

If you are looking for fabric this is the place to go. The selection is amazing but the prices aren't anything special. Be prepared to spend time searching and digging for what you want. The fabric bolts are in categories but they're bundled on top of each other. Also be prepared to be a little overwhelmed by all of the choices. It's worth the drive to check it out.

I would really go broke if I lived near Anchor Paper Express. I love all of the great paper choices that they carry, I guess that I would call myself "addicted to pretty paper"! Rubber stamping is one of my hobbies and they have a wonderful choice of rubber stamps also and greeting cards made up to show you samples of the rubber stamps.
This store is easy to find. It is on the south side of Highway 55, only about a half mile or so east of Highway 494. The employees are very friendly and helpful. If you have never gone to this store, I highly recommend that you too get addicted! I know that you will enjoy your first visit. This is one of my favorite places to shop for paper.

I first went here with my daughter and we had a wonderful time.
This is a small ceramics studio where you can paint an item of you choice right there in the studio. Items they have to select from are: small/large plates, cups, large and small bowls, picture frames, decorative boxes/dishes and much more.
You only pay for the item you buy - prices start at $8 and can rise considerably depending on how big of a piece you select. Me and my daughter chose a cup and a plate and spent under $20.
There are many styles/colors of glazes to choose from as well as brushes of all sizes and other tools to create paint effects on your masterpiece.
They have actual tiles that have been fired of all the glaze colors, so you can get an idea of what the colors will look like (the paint looks very different fired than it does fresh from the bottle.)
You can take as long as you like to make your creation. When your done, you need put your name on the back of the item and will have to come back in a day or so to pick it up. If your driving a distance to get here, this can be a bother.
I really appreciate the help that we received from the staff on techniques using the paint/tools, it was very helpful. They also have examples of items that are finished out in the open and in books, so you can get more creative ideas of what you would like to create.
This is something that you can do alone, with a friend or with a group. They had a birthday party group of 6 girls while were there - they were having a blast!

If you sew I suggest visting Hancock Fabrics in Bloomington in the Southtown shopping center. They carry an extensive supply of notions and supplies as well as fabric, home decorating essentials and quilting stuff. It is not as large as a Joann superstore but I have found that if a certain item is not available at the large, popular chain stores I am likely to find it at this smaller craft store. Recently I was on the hunt for a magnetic snap used in making purses and tote bags and I could not find it anywhere. On a whim I drove over to Hancock's and they had plenty and in several finishes! They are known to have some great deals on patterns. I have purchased many different brands during their $1 promotions. They also send out coupons if you sign up for their circular. This is a great store for those who sew!

I went here a lot to purchase supplies for a summer school drawing class, and to get mats for a photography class. They have a full range of pencil brands and hardnesses, and a decent selection of papers.
I thought the mats were a little on the expensive side-especially the acid free ones which were about $15 for a 32" x 40" sheet.
As for the staff, it was really hit or miss. Sometimes I would get someone who knew exactly where an item was and would actually walk over to help me get it. Other times, you would have thought I was asking the counter clerk a differential calculus question instead of "hey, got any 9b pencils?"

Super Big arts & crafts store. One of the biggest arts and craft stores that I have seen. This place is usually well stock at all times. You can get most of your arts and craft in this store. Floral, paint, ink, charcoal, sketch pad, canvass, wax, candles, frames, etc etc. If you can only stop at one place to buy your arts and craft this is the place to stop. Good place for students of all ages. The prices are competitive with other arts and crafts stores, and they usually run monthly ads/sales.

The store is off of France Avenue and has ample parking in a free lot. They also offer online shopping and an online upcoming class schedule.

Wow, I have never seen so many Futons in my life. If you love futons or need something for your futon this is definitely the place to go. I personally am not a big futon person so this store wasn't a lot of fun for me. This store only has one concern and that is futons. That is very boring to me.
