Exclusive company is awesome. The staff is so knowledgable and they show true appreciation for almost any type of music. They are always willingto help and, if by surprise, they don't happen to have what you're looking for 9 times out of 10 they will order it for you or even point you towards a competitor. The prices are also fantastic... deffinately a jewel of the Milwaukee retail music scene.

I absolutely love atomic records. They have one of the best selections of new music on vinyl and a rather large collection of used CDs at very fair prices. You can find so many artists that you cant find anywhere else so it is deffinately worth your time to stop in. If you're looking for something rare give them a call if they don't have it they can usually order it.

More
You must experience the joy of shopping at Faust Music first hand to understand what cannot be put into words here. Let me just say that it is a completely unique experience; not just a "shopping" experience, but a "life" experience if you will. Faust has been located on Milwaukee's south side for more than 50 years and most musicians from around these parts know of this zany proprietor. You must shop "by appointment" only which seems odd, since most retailers want customers in their shop. Not true for Faust, he only wants you if you're going to spend money the instant you walk into the shop - he doesn't have time for dilly-dalliances nor does he suffer fools gladly. However, buying a single pair of drumsticks can turn into a mind-expanding three-hour socio-political-philosophical diatribe, so bring money also for the parking meter. You will need it. He has some amazing stories - which he might share with you over some wine and anchovies, and some pretty good drums. Who knows what he has in stock, because he won't let most people see it. However, that isn't really why we shop here - it is for the man, the myth, the legend known as Faust. That, my friends, is why Faust Music gets a perfect score - you will never meet another like him.

I love these stores! You can't always find the really hot bestsellers here, but if you are a book lover you can spend hours at any one of the Half Price Books locations. They have everything from classics to modern lit, tons of reference and non-fiction materials, a nice selection of gift ware and even software.
The one on Brown Deer also does a lot of periodicals and music as well as some collectible books. I have picked up a few cute old Betty Crocker cookbooks to display in the kitchen just for a vintage touch.
The only drawback is that unlike the big box chains, every book in the store is NOT in a searchable computer program. If you are looking for something particular, you might not find it easily and though the staff is always helpful, sometimes they can't find it either. You just have to keep that in mind when you see the great prices!
