We stayed at the Ambassador for two nights during our travels from Chicago to Oshkosh for Airventure. The rooms are large and nicely appointed although the carpet in the room and in the lobby was noticeably dirty and stained. This would have been a really nice place to stay had the staff not been so incredibly unprofessional. The elevators are quaint, but you have to fight the maids to get one to your room. When you get an elevator, you have to listen to the maids complaining bitterly about the management and their working conditions, but based on what I saw of the management, I'm afraid I'm on the side of the maids! This is a beautiful hotel that is being brought down by the failures of its staff. Until there is new management, I would have to advise you to stay elsewhere.
Pros: Beautiful Classic Hotel
Cons: Terrible service, staff and management

I'd been to the Ambassador many years ago and it was nice enough. I'd heard that it had been renovated a while back and business brought me near downtown. Comparing the renovated Ambassador to the late-70s, I was very tempted to go outside and see if it was the same hotel. I've never seen a more successful renovation in my life. The bar is very well-arranged for socializing or for a romantic conversation. The bartender was extremely professional.( I tended bar for a few years, she was wonderful) But the room I received was down-right elegant. The Ambassador could easily take a place on 7th Avenue in Manhattan, with its Hiltons and other big-league hotels. The service was excellant, the room lovely and with good views, parking was adequate even in light of the rather crowded neighborhood. I'd recommend this hotel and I'll stay there next I am in that area.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Ambassador, and I was so impressed. The staff were outstandidng, from the doorman to the concierge. The Art Deco atmosphere is exceptional, throughout the hotel. The rooms were very comfortable. With a few more amenities, this would be a world class hotel.

Our experience at the Ambassador was wonderful. Dan Smith is one of the best chefs in the Midwest, Envoy is a dream expericence. The food was as good as it gets in the Midwest and the service was above and beyond - for instance we had a bulge in our tire after I ran into a curb. The parking lot security guard not only noticed it, but he set me at a neighborhood tire shop that got me in and out in 15 minutes with a brand new tire for a price that would have cost considerably more at Wal-Mart! The desk help was sensational at recommending everything from tacquerias to jewelers and the neighborhood was a most pleasant place for our entire family. If there were any dealers and prostitutes around the area, they must be disguised as wealthy students and professors - for that is about all we saw in our four days and nights here.
Pros: fabulous restaurant, convenient shuttle bus, good help
Cons: a university neighborhood is not for everyone

We had high hopes after reading a review of this renovated Milwaukee landmark. In every aspect of our stay, it fell short of our expectations. First of all, our room was grimey and had a sour odor. Second, given the neighborhood where this hotel is located, it is seriously in need of a security detail. Third, the service was slow, the employees were rude, and the food/drinks were sub-par. Enough art deco flair to choke a goat, however I would never stay there again. On the bright side, you can walk right out the front door to score some smaack and a prostitutti.
Pros: No shortage of pimps and players.
Cons: For god sakes don't bring your family here.
