If you are like me, nothing can brighten your day like going to the dentist. The sound of the drill is like Mozart in my ear....Not I did not go to the dentist for 10 years. However, a little tooth pain can reverse 10 years of inertia. Dr. Murphy is a nice guy really. He xrayed my teeth, and basically told me I needed a root canal. This is the reason I do not go to the dentist, I replied. We both understood, however, that pain would interfere with my ignorance. He said that he would try to save the tooth and readied his drill...but first he applied novacane. Part of my issue with dentist is a deep sided dislike for my childhood dentist, who believed that pain was an essential part of growing up. He used novacane sparingly in order to heighten the fear effect from his patient.
