Man this place has the best pancakes this side of the Mississippi River, but be ready to wait cause it may take a while. However the food is great, the plates are huge and the staff is more than happy to serve you. If you are in Menlo Park stop by for breakfast you will be glad you did. They are open for lunch as well.

For an appetizer, we had the Assiette De Charcuterie, which had an assortment of meats, pickles and olives. I loved the pork rillette, my girl liked the duck one. The Proscutto was excellent, but there seemed to be a bit too much of it for an appetizer (I know, what a thing to complain about!).
We skipped salad or soup (we're small people!) and went straight to the main courses. My girl ordered the skirt steak while I tried the Coq Au Vin. I'd heard a lot about this classic French dish, but had never tried it. I liked the way it was presented and the sauce the chicken was in was spectacular, but the chicken itself was underwhelming. It fell off the bone and was succulent and moist, but in the end it was just... chicken. For some reason, I expected it to be more! My girl's steak was fine as well, but it was even better the next day when we combined her leftover steak with the leftover sauce from my dish. They should put THAT on the menu!
For some unknown reason, I ordered a desert, although each of us were plenty stuffed. I ended up ordering the Apple Tart, which was okay but ruined a bit by the apples not tasting quite right. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was, but they tasted wrong... maybe slightly burnt?
I don't remember the wines we drank, though I do remember the glasses of Pinot we had being much superior to the glasses of a red blend we had. The service was fine, though not quite as attentive as it needed to be, especially when we came to the end of our dinner (waited at least 20 minutes to get a bill).
Overall, a very nice experience and a definite repeat visit (hopefully sooner than 7 years!).
Pros: Stylish, large room, real French food
Cons: Service could be taken to another notch

This is a great spot to head after your softball game in the summer. Unfortunately, everyone has this idea and it can get pretty crowded during the summer nights. The food is fine. The pizza is yummy. I like the chicken wings (spicy!), and the burgers are always good. The beer is reasonable. They've got TVs to watch the games and usually have a variety of things on (baseball, tennis, etc.). Fun spot I'd highly recommend.

Cafe Borrone has a great selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. Their drinks are also top notch and their deserts are fantastic. The atmosphere is very relaxing and provides a great place to grab a bite to eat and sit outside near the fountain. Open late, they are a popular spot for people to come and get desert and try their outstanding coffee drinks and occasionally listen to live music. On El Camino and next to Kepler's Bookstore in Menlo Park, the location couldn't be better. Highly recommended!

Dinner was really good. The bread was delicious. The friend green tomatoes weren't too heavy. The assortment of vegatables were each perfectly cooked. The steak, although it was a filet mignon, actually had flavor, was a large portion, and was perfectly cooked. The desert was tasty. Although we ate a fair amount and left sated, we didn't feel bloated. I highly recommend this little treasure.
Pros: excellent organic, sustainable food
Cons: a bit pricey, but almost worth it.

I have been to a LOT of Japanese restauarants. Some are just so-so, some are me-too, and others same-old same-old. There are a very few who stand out as different, unique, and eye-opening.
I was introduced to Gombei by a buddy who's wife is Japanese. I was expecting just another sushi boat kinda place though.
What I found was very real, very down home, what your mom would cook for dinner if you lived in Japan kind of food. Udons, rice bowls, Japanese comfort food. Very GOOD Japanese comfort food. And the portions are incredible. This is a GREAT place, especially if your going for a date or business lunch - one where you want Japanese food, but loath the awkwardness of talking while ripping apart a too-large California roll with your teeth and fingers.
Food is above expectations, and flavor is incredible. Prices are quite fair for the portions and taste, and the decor and layout is very professional. For a business lunch, the room is relatively easy to converse in, even with a full crowd (rare nowadays). The only caveat is parking. Street parking is VERY highly recommended. Parking in back poses the risk that your car can get boxed in inadvertently.

I just went here for the first time and I will be back. We had a great time and loved the concept since there isn't anything like it in the area. It is similar to fondu, but you only you are grilling your food. So you get to cook it how you like it. They have the best kobe steak and sake too.
