The small town outside the gates of West Point surprisingly does not have a lot to offer, considering the constant flow of guests in area. A strip mall-like town is about 10 min away if chain restaurants are your thing, but one local eatery is worth visiting. Schade's is a cozy restaurant that fills up after football games and you can always find cadets crowding its booths. Their menu is pretty diverse, with wraps, salads, entrées, Italians sodas, and homemade pizza. The deep dish pizza is a favorite of mine. The dough is just so good, I want to scrape off the toppings and just eat that! When it's crowded, service can be a little slower, but compared with the other options, it's worth the wait. I've also enjoyed their harvest salad and buffalo chicken wrap. It's a cute small town restaurant!

I ate at Hacienda for the second time this past weekend. My daughter is a Plebe at West Point. We celebrated her 1st birthday away from home with her and 7 of her cadet friends. We brought a special dessert from home and the staff could not have been more accommodating in helping us with it. The food was also great. I think my daughter had one of the best birthday experiences thanks to everyone at Hacienda. We will be visiting them every time we visit our daughter.

A great place to eat! The menu is varied and has something for everyone, from soups to salads to sandwiches to full meals, all reasonably priced. We ate there frequently when stationed at the nearby US Military Academy.

This is absolutely my favorite place to eat in the Hudson Valley. The food is amazing, the prices are reasonable, and it has just such an amazingly cute atmostphere. HIGHLY recommended.

Very friendly manager and staff, clean rooms, reasonable pricing. Many rooms so something is generally available, however if you know you HAVE to get a room, I would book ahead because not all hotels in area are as clean and welcoming as Econo Lodge in Highland Falls.

If you're shopping for a gift, this is a great store to look in. They carry the Vera Bradley line, which is very popular (I have a few bags), as well as many West Point themed items (not cheap souvenirs, though). They change a lot of their merchandise seasonally. I bought several winter-themed platters as Christmas gifts and they were very well received. Recently, the owners took a shot at opening a coffee shop in the back of the store. I haven't tried it yet, but I am sure I will soon.

Have you ever been to a concert at West Point? Highly recommend it. In the summer, there are many band and jazz performances which are held in the Trophy Point Amphitheater at the Academy or in several locations throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The band's current schedule is listed on their website and usually appears in the weekend events section of the Times Herald Record. You'll want to check the 24 hour hotline (845) 938-2617 before any event for any changes in schedule, updates or cancellations due to inclement weather
The U. S. Military Marching Band is comprised of selected musicians who've played at Army football games, parades, solemn funerals, the Rose Bowl and other occasions. The 48-member wind Concert Band is one of the Academy's most popular groups and is usually featured at its Annual July 4th celebration.
What's great about this? The events are usually FREE and are open to the public. If you're visiting West Point, leave extra time for a security check at the main gate.

I love the Sakura Spa in Highland Falls. This is a one woman show. The owner, Kwee, does manicure and pedicures, facials and waxing. I go most often for the facials. She has nice relaxing music playing in the background as she does my facial, using products that have yet to aggravate my extremely sensitive skin. The bonus with Kwee is that she puts a special moisturizing treatment on your hands (then puts mitts on the hands), and gives you a scalp and neck/shoulder massage as your facial mask does its magic. Her prices are extremely reasonable, as she doesn't have the high overhead associated with larger salons. I highly recommend her. Highland Falls is out of the way for some people, but trust me, it is worth the drive to see Kwee.
