This is by far the BEST bakery on Maui. They have been around for years and is still the best at what they do. From butter rolls to long johns. This bakery is hard to beat. When you get a chocolate chantilly cake for your child's birthday party, you're sure to please everyone. It is located on the corner of Baldwin Ave and parking is often available. They have their own designated parking area right next to it. They have been in business for a lot of years and their butter rolls taste the same as they did when I was a little girl. They bring back a lot of childhood memories.

Going upcountry? Don't forget to put Komoda's General Store on your to do list. This small store in Makawao town has a bakery that you can't miss. Probably the cream puffs and the butter rolls are the favorites. It's not unusual for them to sell out, so call before you head out and place an order for pick up. Order by the dozen, you'll be glad you did when you see them vanish.

Komoda Store in Makawao on the island of Maui is exactly what a hole-in-the-wall should look like. Inside the store is dark, the aisles narrow, and the employees all look like they’ve been there for several decades, at least.
Part of the store is your basic sundries, perfect for picking up emergency items without having to drive to Kahului or Wailuku. The other part -- and this is what attracts folks outside of Makawao -- is the bakery, where their famous cream puffs and azuki bean pie are sold. The former is exactly what it sounds like – flaky pastry with a creamy filling. Perfect. The latter is almost like eating a giant manju (flaky Asian pastry with a bean filling).
I’m not sure how often folks buy stuff from the store (some of it looked pretty dusty on the shelf), but the bakery is always busy and sells out rather quickly. Ordering ahead of time is recommended.

It's not unusual to see a line outside Komoda's, in upcountry Makawao, especially if it's near the holidays or right before they are closing for "maintenance." Everyone knows to pick up a dozen or two of their butter rolls. If you can't eat them all, you can always throw them in the freezer for another day. I like the loafs of bread they make, especially after they are heated in the oven and then buttered.

Unless you taste them, you just won't understand about all the fuss. You MUST have the butter rolls with your holiday dinners. Their cream puffs and long johns have been popular with locals for years and years. Be sure to call ahead, as you can reserve a dozen rolls, and two cream puffs, and some of their bread, too. By noon, almost all the fresh baked goods are sold out.
