Abuelo's serves the best mexican food in Lubbock! If you are visiting or a resident, this is the place to eat. Try the dish with the 3 pieces of bacon wrapped tenderloin and jalapeno stuffed shrimp wrapped with bacon also! It's the best dish on the menu.
Great chips, hot sauce and queso!
Pros: Good service,, great food, nice atmosphere
Cons: A little pricy,, but worth the $

For Mexican food, I've had better in both value and taste. It's wasn't bad, but nothing to get excited about. The seafood dishes were very good. The food was way too hot. I don't mind waiting a few minutes so I don't burn my tongue, but my mahi mahi took a long time to cool down enough to eat. It was mainly the sauce and other items on top that were too hot.
The chips were thinner than most other Mexican places. This might have been the reason we had so many small, broken pieces in the basket. Salsa was good.
The decor is wonderful! Nice murals. The bar looked great. I don't know why the TV at the bar was turned off.
Pros: atmosphere, service, cute greeters

What part of Mexico did this food come from? The Nouvelle Cuisine touch to their food is not Mexican. Didn't find anything that made me look forward to coming back.

Abuelo's has the Best Damn Mexican Food I've ever had. My wife had a dish called Enchilads de Cozumel- 3 avocado enchiladas ina light cream sauce with shrimp, red pepper, and scallops. I had 3 pieces of bacon wrapped beef tenderloin, and 3 pieces of bacon wrapped shrimp, which were sliced in half and stuffed with cheese and jalapeno. We had cheesecake for dessert, and a great margarita! The service was top notch, the price was right- it was the best!
Pros: flavor, service, variety
