Fun for the whole family 9/15/2006

Lion Country Safari is definitely a place everyone should experience at least once. It's the only attraction like it still in existence. I'm pretty sure everyone knows about the drive-through safari -- which is guided by either a tape or CD they give you at the entrance. You can drive at your own leisure, just make sure you make your intentions known to the car behind you so they don't get mad. I think their last safari is at 4 or 4:30pm daily. They also have a park where you can walk around and enjoy lunch at the cafe. They also now have giraffes that you can get up close and personal with, but that was before the last time I went. The cool thing that I remember from the last time (and it was a miserable time because it was raining) was the bird 'cage.' I don't recall the species of birds, but there's a walk in cage-type thing where you can feed these birds. It's a syrupy thing that the birds really enjoy. And they're not shy -- they land all over you just to get some food. So get your cameras ready! I remember back in the day they used to charge by the car load and now it's per person, so that's the only downside -- it's not that cheap. Several times a year you can get discount coupons at Publix though, so keep your eye out for those. It really is worth it to go. Here's a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_Country_Safari I found on Wikipedia about it for some background information. more

Voted Best Local Attraction 4/17/2006

Although it is expensive, Lion Country Safari is a great place to visit. You drive through the grounds in your personal vehicle and the animals are allowed to run wild. These animals include lions, tapirs, African elephants, various antelope, white rhinos, water buffalo, zebras, chimpanzees and giraffes. Driving through Lion Country Safari is like being on a safari in Africa. At the end of the drive-through portion of Lion Country Safari is a walk-through area called Safari World. Safari World includes a restaurant and gift shop (air conditioned and a welcome refuge on hot summer days), a petting zoo, merry-go-round, boat rides, and bird, reptile, alligator and monkey exhibits. Lion Country Safari is an educational facility, a conservation park and a fun place to enjoy the day. more

If you love animals, you'll love it here. 4/4/2006

This was just an amazing experience. Being able to get so close to lions and giraffes was wonderful. We spent most of the day here and it was just fun to relax and feed the animals, though you don't get that close to the lions. Next time I'm in Florida I plan on going back. more

a ride through zoo 12/31/2005

My family always enjoys a ride through Lion Country Safari. They give you a great tape to listen to that is your guide as you drive through the various habitats and see the animals. I hear that they have not caged off the Lions as people were opening the windows driving by them. My only complaint is it is to small. The drive is over in about 30 to 45 minutes. more

Up close and personal 12/30/2005

Your visit begins with a car ride through Lion Country Safari. You drive through different areas geared toward the native habitats of the animals. There's an area for lions, monkeys, elephants, giraffes and more. Some animals even walk right up to your car so you get a really close view. Afterward, take a walk through the park, where the highlight is a chance to be eye level with a giraffe -- making it easier to hand feed them. There's a petting zoo as well. more

What a fun and educational place to be. When you enter the park you are given a CD to listen in your car while you drive through the park. The CD explains the different animals that you are seeing. It is amazing. From zebras, ostriches, lions and more. Sometimes they come right up to your window. There is also a part of the park where you walk around. They have lots of fun things to do like feed a giraffe, play miniature golf, ride a ferris wheel and eat lunch. A great place to spend the day! more
