I like the idea of Ear X-Tacy more than I like the implementation.
If you've been to an indie record store in any major city or college town, you pretty much know what to expect from Ear X-Tacy. Cool, but nothing worth making a special trip for IMHO.
Everyone urges you to support your local record stores; however, no one has told me why I need to spend $4-5 more per disc just to say I got it there.
I did get to catch the Foo Fighters play there live on July 4th in 2001 (I think it was 2001).

The appeal of this store comes from its extensive stock of hard-to-find indie rock albums and limited edition vinyl pressings. Many Louisville artists are featured in a local section that is unmatched in the Louisville area.
This store often has touring acts stopping in to do in-store performances and album signings.

Ear X-tacy is the place to get your music in Louisville. Everyone does it, you should too. It's locally owned and has maintained that same local charm since I can remember. The mployees actually know about music and are helpful. They seem to actually care. It's a quirky place that's known by everyone yet somehow seems like your own little secret record store, nonetheless. If you're sick of buying into all the chain store hype, this is the place for you. You'll find there are tons of people who shop here that feel the same way.

Ear X-Tacy is known around Louisville as the place to go if you are looking for music from local bands, hard to find recordings, or just something out of the ordinary. They are also well known for their bumper stickers. I have recently heard that they are having live local bands in the store to perform. I am not sure if this is during business hours or not though.

They've been in business many years and have always been a favorite of the Bardstown Rd neighborhood.
They offer all kinds of music with a specialty for the alternative crowd. it's a great place to find rare imports that you may not know existed of popular bands. They also feature bands that you've probably never heard of but take a listen and your sure to find something you like.
They offer good parking and it's a hip and cool place and the people are friendly. If your into music and open to new things you may want to give this place a try.

Locally owned businesses in Louisville that are afraid of Louisville losing its unique charm use the slogan "Keep Louisville Weird." Ear X-tacy is the greatest locally owned music store. They blow the chain owned stores out of the water. The staff know so much about local, national and international music. They have a huge selection and can order it if not in stock. They offer great recommendations and help advertise the local music scene. Drop on in to Ear X-tacy located in the Highlands.
