This neck of the woods used to be a bit sketchy, but now that it's been Disnified, there's not much to worry about before the sun goes down. This is a place only Hollywood could have churned out with pagoda's art art deco embellishments being vomited out in a way that is nothing short of frenzied. The handprints outside are fun, but to really appreciate the place, shell out the cash for a ticket and see a movie (preferably something actiony -- these movies have the community atmosphere of a baseball game in this sprawling movie palace.

You cannot beat the Arclight if you're looking for the best movie experience in LA. It is the largest movie theater I've been to and every seat is an awesome "captain's chair" for utmost comfort while watching the movie. Although the restaurant attached to it is kind of sub-par. Still, HUGE theater! Great!

Although the grove has spoiled me with stadium seating, the beverly cinema is a real gem of west LA. They have great films, regularly do themed double features, and tickets are about half the price of the grove (which means they're $10). It's primarily the old theater atmosphere and the great movie selection of the beverly cinema that makes it such a find. Good popcorn too.

The theater is beautiful and even though it is expensive it's nice to go to a theater everyone knows about. It is a lot better than any other movie theater, in terms of seats and space, it feels classier and the place is so beautiful it's just fun to go there and see a new movie. The entire building is beautiful and they have really convenient machines that sell you the tickets outside the theater if you're in a hurry. You can also purchase them on line. It's a really great place to go, if not for the movie, then for the richness of visiting somewhere so classy.

What if I told you that for $7 you could see two amazing movies in one afternoon/evening? The Beverly is the place for the kind of movies they don't make anymore. Their double features range from the old and classic (Maltese Falcon/Casablanca) to the quirky (Kung Fu Hustle/Enter the Dragon). Check their website for upcoming flicks and be prepared for an older theatre experience. There is no THX audio, no huge IMAX screen. Just good movies, good popcorn, and a nice atmosphere. Be warned: Parking can be tricky, look at all the signs and know that if you're very close to the theatre you're probably going to get towed/ticketed.

Located on Fairfax in Hollywood, this theater still plays silent movies. They even bring an organist (in fact, the original player from back when all there were was silent films). They also do events here such as weddings. There is a great patio, and they play silent films during the events. They also change the marquee for the event.

The El Capitan Theatre is beautifully restored. I went to see the Jimmy Kimmel Show there and they hand out tickets in front of the theatre. You have to wait for an hour and the gaurds search your pockets and purse. But inside it looks like an old classic theater with a stage set inside a big room. The traffic in the area is murder but the area is really cool. The theatre is located right across from Grauman's Chinese, the Kodak Theatre and the Roosevelt Hotel. So there is plenty to do in the area if you don't like the theatre. But don't worry. You will.

We went there for the Star Wars. Both the sound and movie are wonderful. But it is a little bit annoying the one sitting beside me keep making noise. Fortunately, he left before the end of the movie. In a word, the theatre is wonderful especially with so many stores around it.

More
I have visited the Harmony Gold Theater on a couple occasions to see a movie screening. It was always followed by a Question and Answer session with someone affiliated with the film. The quality of the projection and sound are very good. My only complaint is that the seats are old and uncomfortable and they do not offer much leg room between rows. Free parking is provided on the premises.

More
Whenever a good movie comes along, I enjoy watching it at this theater. Unlike your typical plain vanilla big box theater, what sets the Crest apart from the rest is the decor. The walls are decorated with a cityscape view to give you a feel of being in a city. When the lights go down, the buildings light up and the ceiling above turns into a starry night complete with shooting stars. This movie theater does not offer stadium seating. It is long and deep with a dip in the center. This layout can create a problem if a tall person sits in front of you.
