I adore Tasca. The food is delicious and inventive. It is always piping hot and fresh, and on top of that, the service is always cordial. The waitstaff and bartenders are always willing to answer questions and make suggestions as to what their favorite dishes are. They will also help you out if you have a hard time deciding what you'd like to eat. I would recommend trying to score a seat at the bar if you're eating with only one other person, as I think the tables put the diners too far apart from one another. It is also quite loud, so if you sit at the bar you'll have a better chance of hearing your dining partner. It's a nice place to go on a date with someone you really like...in other words, not first date material. It can get pricey, but it's not outrageous. The moules frites are delicious, served in a saffron broth. The duck confit is to die for. I found the pate plate a little disappointing simply because I preferred one pate over the other two we were served, but it's fun to try new things. And the bread is delicious. Pair things with wine, have a good conversation with your date and the waiter, and you're guaranteed to have a good time. Just remember...sitting at the bar makes a big difference!
Pros: Inventive, fresh food served by attentive and helpful waitstaff.
Cons: Ambiance is a loud, and tables put patrons too far apart. It's best to sit at the bar.

Orris blends among the stretch of restaurants and shops on Sawtelle, so it doesn't particularly stand out when you drive by. Being on Sawtelle, the atmosphere is pretty low key and quiet (even though Jonathan Gold called the atmosphere fancy I don't really agree), so I was pleasantly surprised with all the delicious food that welcomed me inside.
Orris specializes in little dishes representing world cuisine created by Shiro of South Pasadena. Each dish has a recommended wine pairing, though we did not try any this time around.
First up was the Smoked Salmon Croquette. Very good, though I would have liked a bit more salmon.
Followed by the lobster spring roll. Also good (but I prefer my lobster grilled and drizzled with lemon and a bit of garlic butter.)
Next was sliced beet topped with Etorki cheese. This was excellent! The combination was perfect and it was my first time having this outstanding cheese. Loved it!
Also, tomato burrata. Yum. We had to order another one of these.
We also had dungeness crab and cucumber salad. The ingredients used were very good, although a different sauce may be better.
Next was the lamb loin carpaccio and the ahi sashimi with onion relish. Both were excellent dishes! The lamb carpaccio was topped with Spanish Manchego cheese which made a perfect combination.
After all this excellent dishes though, the final was indisputably the highlight of my meal ...
Seared Foie Gras with Eggplant, w/ Sweet Soy Wasabi Sauce.
Oh my god ... just thinking back about it now >_<
I can still remember the taste on my tongue, the texture ... OMG! The eggplant and the foie gras made an unexpectedly excellent combination, and the sauce! This was definitely one of the best foie gras dishes I've had!
I could not find this on the menu on their website, it might have been a special ... oh no ... the thought of not being able to eat it ever again!! I'

Though I wouldn't call myself a sushi connoisseur, I have eaten at a number of different places around town. This one is by far one of the best values. It's upscale without being trendy or snobby or too expensive.
I've eaten there 3 times now and each time was great. The food is terrific. The ambiance is quiet, chill, and clean. My wife and I last went on a weekend and it wasn't very busy...(I'm surprised they don't get more business). It's definitely a place that we would eat at again.

(It is not my job to defend this restaurant, my wife and I are looking for a good place to go)
Your credit card company will often authorize 20% of the gross amount, not the restaurant or even their merchant services company is responsible for doing this. Visa, MC, Amex does this to ensure that there is room enough for you to leave a tip, using the standard 20%, as the person below states. In a few days, that amount will be replaced with the amount you actually tipped, even if it's zero. It can become alarming or even an inconvenience but it's not the the restaurant's fault. Having an inept manager on the other end of the line unable to properly explain the situation is quite another thing. The reader states he/ she was a bartender in a past life but not having run across this situation before is surprising to me.

It's a wonderful restaurant, the staff is friendly. I have never had a bad mean or service. Everything we ordered was delicious. A must try is the hummus, it's different, but delicious. The Apple Doughnut were not my favorite desert, but that's just a taste thing. My friend ordered a second helping. Just give it a try and try the Orange Margarita. On this last trip we had a meal of Tapas. DEELISH!!!!
Pros: Food, Drinks, Service, Ambiance, Desert
Cons: I don't live next door!

I am from Spain and I have been living in LA for three years. As you can imaging, any of us are looking for home made food which remind us our country, our culture, our family and friends...
After trying a lot of Spanish restaurants and being so disappointed because they are sooo expensive for the amount of food they serve and so different from what Spaniards use to eat, I was desperate for the real Spanish food for almost two years!!
So well...I have been looking for the real deal!! the authentic Spanish food for a reasonable price. What was my surprise when I found a year ago Tinto Tapas!!!! Guys, this is for real!!! The atmosphere of the place is marvelous, the people working in there are amazing and the food!! uumm uumm umm DELICIOUS!!!
I invite you to try my favorite tapas: "Datiles Rellenos de Queso de Cabrales con Bacon", "Albondigas a la Espa?ola" like the ones our grandma used to make for us!!, "Croquetas de Jamon" and of course the "pulpo"!!! ( Thank you Alex for always keep me in mind!!). Those are the ones that keep me going to Tinto :D ( I have to be honest!!)
But nooow!!! The chef has changed!!! and the PAELLA!!! uuuuf what to say about the new way the paella is made... it even has socarrat!!! (Valencianos sorry for my spelling!!) Thanks Mercedes to have those recipes and share them with us!!! My friends and I really appreciate your commitment!!
Moreover, I truly recommend Tinto for any occasion!!! The restaurant is a traditional place in where you can have business dinners, parties, thank of their amazing catering, friendly meals or just a romantic dinner. Oh!! And don?t forget the bar!! With Alex!!! You should go and meet him!! LOL
Go and have fun in Tinto!! You will thank me!!! They ALWAYS have a big smile :) Now that I live in NYC I miss your yummy food and your great service!! you should open one in here!!
Pros: Amazing ambience, great service, delicious food, outstanding music, easy street parking plus valet parking

La Paella is probably the only place in L.A. where you can get authentic Spanish tapas. I especially love the sauteed mushrooms, grilled shrimp, and clams in white wine sauce. The restaurant is cozy and romantic, and the owner is always friendly. Great place for a date and also good for groups.
Pros: Authentic tapas, cozy, fun
Cons: Crowded

The chicken wings are sooooo delicious here!!!! I ordered other yummy stuff too, but it's the wings that's going to keep bringing me back.
The parking is kinda weird in the back though... what's with the "pull fwd", so other cars can park behind you and block you in? ekkk.
Cons: can get crowded w/ a wait later in the evening.
