If you like pie, like I do, this is the place to go. They have a large selection, although be forwarned that some pies on their list are "seasonal." The pies are really the best thing about this restaurant, which is really more of a diner. They have a parking lot, which is a major plus! I think of it more as a dessert place than anything else. The rest of the food menu is standard diner fare.
Pros: The pies! The pies! The pies! Oh, and the parking!
Cons: average food menu

The pies alone are worth the jaunt to this Los Angeles institution. While the House of Pies serves breakfast all day and has a lunch/dinner menu packed with American classics like burgers, roast beef, and mashed potatoes, it's best to save room for dessert. Try a seasonal offering like creamy pumpkin or opt for the chocolate cream pie that has actual slices of banana embedded in the filling. Another favorite is their super creamy cheesecakes, topped with fresh fruit like strawberries. You can also pick up one House of Pie's confections to take home, including their pies, cheesecakes, and cookies.
Pros: Parking lot, Cozy atmosphere, Convenient Location
Cons: Slow service

Thanksgiving was a wonderful event for our family as usual...we are blessed and thankful for those blessings...since we were visiting from out of town this year and since the hotel wasn't offering ovens and cooking areas...My contribution to the Thanksgiving dinner was to be some "store bought" pies...I wasn't excited about this as I've had the run of the mill chain store bakery pies in the past and have never been very pleased with their mass baking taste...Well House of Pies in the Los Feliz/Silverlake area of LA was the place I researched online to order ahead and pick up on Thanksgiving day...We ordered a Dutch Apple and a Pumpkin and were told to pick them up around noon....When we arrived at this location we were shocked to see the line clear out of the store and winding through the parking lot....So we parked and began the wait...Even though you pre-order you still have to wait in line to do the p/u. We finally arrived inside 54 minute after we got in line... a woman greeted us with the question of pre-order or not?.. We gave our name and order only to find out since it was now 1:30 our Dutch Apple had been sold to someone else and more would be available in 2 hours!!!! the Pumpkin was still waiting for us ...and instead of coming back and renegotiating the line..we opted for Mince pie to take the place of the Dutch Apple.... We rushed home with our treasured pies (9.50 each) and after dinner I whipped some heavy cream and we began the delightful taste tests... I can tell you that I have baked, eaten , tasted and devoured many a pumpkin pie in my life ...and aside from my mother's wonderful pies this was the best I had ever tasted....it was worth every moment of hassle and line standing...every one at our "feast" was delighted with the taste..even those that normally don't indulge in pumpkin pie...then the mince was cut and OMgosh...even I loved it...and this is one pie I have NEVER liked...they were both the best we could have hoped for ...although the business could stand to do a little re-vamping of the pick-up process and could have been more direct about the time line...( as in ...if you are not here at 12 sharp...we sell your pie!!!) It was all worth it....I would do it all again..but next time would pick up my pie the night before!!!! Head out to your local House of Pies...( if you are lucky enough to have one!!!)...make up an occasion if you need to ...just go get some great pie and treat your family and friends!!!

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. The food is okay, the place is dated the wait staff is helpful, although not much english understood anymore, but the food is above average with the salads being a true stand out. If you do pie I hear it's worth splurging on their fresh pies.
Pros: Decent food, some parking, always available seating
Cons: dated decor, spanglish staff who can be indifferent

Although I'm a pure Italian (and very proud to be) I love to live in LA as often as I can as well as I adore to go to the House of Pies as often as I can. Believe it or not, there I can find a delicious cappuccino Italian style with many other "delicatezze" for my breakfast.
If you go there Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays ask to be waited by Alexia: she is the best in suggesting, recommending, waiting and sometimes in listening to your problems!
Pros: Recently remodeled , Good value for money , Very friendly
Cons: crowded on Sundays
