It's close to my home, so whenever I feel like something Chinese and don't want to cook myself I will go here.
To describe this as authentic Chinese would not be correct. It is very hard to find true Chinese food in the USA, it's all catered for the American palate. Many dishes have been 'invented' specifically for this market.
Having said that: this is a nice place, food is good for what it is, service is very friendly and it's fresh.
Good enough.

I love Los Angeles and have eaten at restaurants throughout our fair city since forever. I would loved to have eaten at Hunan but when I entered the restaurant last Saturday evening, I was denied service. The woman at the counter, after waiting on the customers in front of my friend and I, turned to us and shouted, "Leave, you get no service here." We were both confused and asked her to repeat what she had said. She again shouted at us, "Leave! You get no service here! Get Out!" She kept pointing to the front door. Stunned, we both left.
Neither one of us had ever been to that restaurant before. We only chose it because it was in walking distance to the Directors Guild and we had just seen Iron Man there that evening. As I am an African American middle-aged woman and my friend a Mexican American woman, we could only think this had something to do with our race. I know this sounds unbelievable and unfair in this day and age, but this is what happened to us. We could see no other reason for this type of treatment. My husband stated that we should have made a scene but believe me, we were not looking for a fight, just a meal. My friend recommended that we post this review to let others know what occurred.
Maybe you will have better luck..
Cons: I was denied service.

So when you look at my history, you'll see that I prefer to write positive reviews than just bash an experience by a one time occurance and this time will not be any different. I have been eating at Hunan since I was fifteen with my first boyfriend and they have treated me like family, I even get a little jealous when the owner Susan pays attention to another table. But I love them, anything you want you can have, the food is so fresh and delicious, healthy hey that's another story, but when you are in the mood for some serious Chinese Food head over to Hunan, I'm telling you you can't miss! Try the Kung Pao(I always go extra spicy), Chicken Lo Mein, Slippery Shrimp, egg rolls, won ton soup...okay so I sound like a chunky, I don't do them all when I go, okay fine I do, but it's well worth it!
Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Parking
Cons: They charge extra for white rice

Free hot tea, too! Waiters are very nice and will make suggestions if you want. The larger tables have lazy susans which make it easy to share lots of dishes. Free and ample parking in their own lot.

This is the only chinese restaurant in LA, that serves spicy hunan wonton, which is delicious. The menu has many items to choose from. The crispy beef and the spicy beef shreds on hoisin sauce are delicious. The waiters need to smile a little more, but the service is good and the food comes out fast, which is the usual attention that you get in chinese restaurants.
Pros: good spicy food, food comes out fast, good food selection
Cons: servers never smile, no atmosphere, expensive

One review said that he drives an hour and a half to eat at Hunan. I live two blocks away, and after my first expirence, I wouldn't walk that far if they were giving the food away. Despite being overpriced, the food was very unremarkable. The only saving grace was the eggroll, which came out at a nice 300 degrees and burnt our mouths.
Pros: eggroll, cheesy decor, good parking
Cons: food, food, food
