My parents took me to this restaurant for lunch several years ago. Ever since, I've been going there with my wife. WE LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! There is no other place we will go for sushi. We use to go to Komasa a block away, but not since we've started going to Sushi Gen. The quality of their fish is top notch! And their prices are decent. Their chefs are all very friendly, funny, and GREAT at making Sushi. We never are dissapointed when we go there. The only draw back is there can be a wait. We use to go there 2-3 times a month and now my wife gets jealous anytime I go there with somebody else! Sushi Gen has set the bar for all other sushi restaurants in our minds.
Pros: Great fish
Cons: Ruins the standard for all other sushi restaurants

Sushi Gen is my favorite Sushi restaurant in LA hands down. The quality of the fish is excellent and prices are very reasonable depending on what you order.
For lunch: Sashimi Lunch plate is the best Sushi deal for only $12 dollars and a plate full of sashimi. You also get soup and small dishes!
Dinner: Sashimi Deluxe Plate: $30 with a huge plate of sashimi and other types of fish.. like grilled salmon, crab meat, etc...
These are my two favorite dishes at Sushi Gen...
The customer service is decent, and the wait is usually over 10 minutes, but defintely worth it!!
Pros: fresh fish, good portions, parking
Cons: long wait if you don't have a reservation

I think the food at Sushi Gen is good (not the best) and the resturant is nice. However, the service can be better. They waiters don't listen very well when you request something like an extra fork, napkin, etc. For the price, they should have better service.
Pros: Decent Sushi
Cons: Unattentive service

Excellent quality sushi in an authentic atmosphere. Overheard one of the sushi chefs say he's been at Sushi Gen for 26 years! The restaurant opens for lunch at 11:15am and people start lining up at 10:30am. We arrived at 11:10am and by the time we got to the hostess, we were informed it would be a 40 minute wait for a party of 4. We decided to split our group up and eat at the a la carte sushi bar. I sat with my co-worker and we each ordered 3 types of sushi, drank water, and the bill was $48. Enjoyed it, but will get there earlier next time so that we can sit at a table and order from a menu. If you area a sushi connoisseur, this place is for you.

I've been going to this restuarant for many years. Sushi is fresh and price reasonable. However, over the years, as the restuarant got busier, their service is becoming ridiculously bad. Now they have a policy where everyone in your party has to be there before they would sit you. I could understand if you're the only one there in the group. But if most of the people in your party is there, you should be sitted so you could start your dinner. I always spend few bills when I eat sushi. I'm not giving this place no more of my hard earned cash. Go to Sushi Komasa down the street. Awesome service and food.
Pros: Fresh Fish
Cons: Poor Service, Long Wait

This is one of the best sushi restaurants in L.A., near Little Tokyo. The prices are not your strip-mall-sushi...but neither is the sushi! I recommend going if you are comfortable with a variety of sushi already, and looking for more than rolls. If that's your bag, I recommend Niko Niko Sushi in Los Feliz (I have a review for that as well). Happy eating!
