So somehow I ended up in Little Tokyo one Saturday afternoon. By 1:30 I was hungry and Sushi Gen was right there so I stepped inside. There were not that many customers so I just sat myself at the bar. The staff was attentive. The sushi chef was fantastic. The fish was heavenly. I could not get enough. I tried uni, ebi, hamachi, toro, unagi, and a few others plus a sashimi combination. They were ALL great. No wonder I was so full afterward.
Pros: Fantastic sushi, fresh
Cons: None

Sushi Gen is famous for its sushis and sashimis. This place has the freshest fishes for the sashimi, definitely a MUST GO if you are a raw fish lover.
The sushi rolls are also excellent such as the spider roll, spicy tuna, california roll. Great place for traditional and authentic Japanese cuisine.
One thing to keep in mind though, is get there early because there can be a long wait for dinner, especially on weekends

The food was amazing. The service was great. I have nothing but great things to say about Sushi Gen. The Sashimi deluxe (that comes with tempura), and the Sushi Deluxe is generous enough that you can share it with two people. The seafood was incredibly fresh. It's not that expensive if you share some items.
Pros: amazing sushi ! lovely simple atmosphere. attentive service
Cons: not romantic, little pricey

This sushi place is THE best in LA by far. I am really picky with sushi as I was born and raised in Japan where fresh sushi is available any where all the time. Everything they offer is fresh and tasty. The place is always packed so reservation is strongly recommended. But make sure to call few days ahead since the restaurant does not take last minute reservation.
Pros: Everything on the menu is great
Cons: Always busy

This is the best place for sushi. Their fish is very fresh and you can never find another better one in the whole area. Its a bit expensive but worths it. Highly recommend trying Uni sushi/ Yellowtail Toro/Monk fish Liver appetizer (they all melt in your mouth).
However, there is always a very long wait. I have tried to wait for more than 2 hours for a table. Remember to make a reservation!
Pros: Very fresh fish, best sushi in LA
Cons: Very long wait..

I just went yesterday and I was apprehensive at first because I love sashimi and I wanted something that I knew would satisfy me. We ordered the Japanese mackerel, fresh water eel, albacore, oysters, spicy tuna, yellowtail and they did not disappoint. The cut is generous and the fish is fresh and tender. It felt like it was melting in my mouth! I would recommend this place to anyone! We went for dinner on a Tuesday and did not have to wait! Wonderful waitress and manager!!! Kudos!
Pros: fresh sashimi, friendly staff
Cons: none

Hands down best sushi I have had in LA. Nothing has lived up to the quality of fish and taste of the toro, yellowtail, unagi sushi, and the sashimi deluxe dinner. I have been to a lot of places, and always recommend Sushi Gen first. Hard to make reservations and sometimes a long wait for a table, but the sushi chefs will make you laugh, and the sushi will make you come back again and again.
Pros: Best Sushi in LA, quality, traditional, sashimi dinner
Cons: ability to make reservations, wait for a table, a little pricey but worth it!
