Although Palermo has a nice, warm, dining space, I was not impressed with their tomato sauce. It tasted as if their supply was low and someone added water to the sauce in the hopes of streching it. If the sauce improves, Palermo has a chance of being a great place to take friends and family to, but they are not there yet.
Pros: clean

My girlfriend and I tried a penne dish with marinara sauce and were dissappointed. The portions were large but the sauce tasted like a generic, off the shelf brand found in any grocery store.
Pros: Friendly service
Cons: Bland food

This place is a landmark, a must for locals and visitors. It may not have the flashiest exterior or have the most sophistocated menu in town. It makes up this in atmosphere, pure fun. As you wait for your table to be ready have a glass of wine and listen for the owner to shout out your name and party number. On the walls are autographed pictures of obsure stars who have frequented the restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient. The food tastes home cooked.

I had such high expectations for this place. The wait for a table was one of the most pleasant in recent memory -- free wine offered, the host laughing with guests and just a good overall vibe. But when I finally got to my table, things changed. The service, though nice, didn't go above and beyond. Orders were rushed. Drinks went unfilled. The food was good, but far from great. The ball-shaped mozarella appetizers were something not worthy of the wait experience and though the portions were big, quality over quantity could be better put to test. But, I have to admit. I appeared to be in the minority -- folks all around seemed like happy regular customers.
Pros: the owners
Cons: uninspired dishes

When I first entered Palermo, I was thrilled. People everywhere, even a crowd outside. I figured this was a great sign, an indicator if you will, of a great meal to come. Boy, was I wrong. The ravioli with mushrooms was smothered in a bland tomato sauce -- desperate dashes of salt and pepper couldn't salvage the lack of taste. Veal parmesan -- an incredibly large piece of meat, again smothered in the same bland sauce -- was worthy of a couple bites at most. Two tiny specks of light: the garlic bread and complimentary pizza slices, both quite tasty. But alas, not good enough for a return visit.
Pros: Friendly staff, Popular with locals
Cons: Mediocre service, Bland food

When you can sit with friends while sipping wine and waiting to be seated. I was intimidated by the ever-present mob of patrons standing outside Palermo that I never gave it a chance...until last weekend. It was a great experience and the wait isn't half-bad when you're chatting w/ friends and having a glass of wine. The Raviolis w/ meat sauce are to die for, thanks for recommending a hearty lentil soup AND for a grand finale Tira Misu...I will definitely go back
Pros: fast service, inexpensive, great ambience
Cons: parking, crowded

The food is excellent, the personal pizza.
The Lasagna is terrific, great place to take a date.
You can bring your own wine, you pay a corkage fee. No reservations necessary, just pop on over.

Don't miss the Pizza Rossa. I suggest it as an appetizer or as a full meal (on some nights they offer it for free to everyone). This place has incredible service. The managers are there each night to welcome you, offering an especially affordable glass of wine while you wait for your table. Don't go expecting the finest Italian cuisine. This is good, inexpensive food in a fun, casual environment.
Pros: Inexpensive, Great Service, Fun
