I am no novice to tattoos. I have about 20% of my body covered in beautiful pieces, all done by two artists that I trust very highly. Neither of them are in LA, and when my beloved cat of 21 years passed away on my wedding night I knew I needed to honor him with the most important tattoo of my life. The problem....where to find the perfect artist to properly honor my little one? Upon seeing the History Channel piece on tattoo history, I was impressed by the Zulu Tattoo shop and wanted to check it out more. I had already met with four other artists who I knew immediately were not right for me, and had perused countless artist books. I emailed Catherine and she responded right away with her suggestion for my particular needs. I made the consult appointment with Lantz as per her suggestion. The shop is beautiful,VERY clean, but warm, none of that "stark" feel. Catherine is lovely and helpful and Lantz was right on time for our appointment. Two minutes with him and I knew he was the perfect person, just as it was suggested he would be. We discussed the piece and they went out of their way to fit me in before I left the country for a long business trip. It has been 12 years or so since my last piece, and I was admittedly a bit nervous. Lantz made me feel at ease and talked to me to keep me distracted through the toughest parts. He finished it in a very short time considering the great detail (did not milk the clock like some artists will) and the results? INCREDIBLE. The colors are so vibrant, the detail so beautiful, and he captured the essence of my little beast so perfectly it seems like he is a photograph. Needless to say, I am ecstatic with the whole experience, beginning to end. I even chatted a little with Mischa, who is really lovely, and got a sample of both hers and King Afa's work while i was there and was very impressed...If this is your first, or 21st piece, this is your place! Pros: Friendly, Clean, Highly skilled. Cons: Parking - but they have very reasonable valet on certain days!

I was visiting LA from Canada and while I was there I wanted to get a tattoo and one of the more "popular" tattoo shops that is on TV right now. I called and emailed them twice and never heard a response and boy and I glad. I started researching tattoo shops in LA and found Zulu. After reading many reviews on this site an others I was very impressed so I thought I would give it a try, and after my first expeience I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I wrong. Zulu had to be the most organized, professional and comfortable tattoo shop. I was very impressed with the quick response from Catherine for booking the tattoo (within 24 hours of my initial email). I had a very origianl idea and was worried if it would come out looking like I wanted to. I had selected Lance to do the tattoo based on Zulu's website and looking at his work. Lance was awesome. We did the consultation via email before I got to LA. To be honest when he sent me the original sample of the tattoo I was a little worried because it was only an outline and didn't really show the detail (Lance explained it would happen in the filling in). I had a few small changes and when I got to my appointment Lance had taken them into consideration and we wer ready to go. Lance was awesome. He was so easy to talk to, it was like talking to a friend. The tattoo is amazing, better than I could have ever imagined. Everyone that has seen it has had nothing but good things to say about how awesome and life-like it looks (it is an orangu-tan). Thank You Thank You Thank You. I am so happy that other place didn't call me back because I got the best tattoo ever. If you are in LA and looking for somewher to go for a tattoo go to Zulu. You won't regret it. And to Lance - go LA Kings (I'll be rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs)! Pros: The atmosphere, the tattoo artist, everything Cons: Nothing

Zulu Tattoo is so much more than just a tattoo shop. It is truly a place that celebrates community and the connection that exists between every single one of us. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the collective energy Zulu and his wife Khani were able to create and radiate outward, welcoming all walks of life in their sphere. I have spent many hours on the table, the result of which is an amazing back piece that reflects both a physical and spiritual manifestation of who and what I am. Zulu was able to channel and draw that out, both literally and figuratively, which is more than a testament to his mastered skill, incredible artistry and the depth of his spiritual being. The beauty of Zulu Tattoo is that every piece is given the same amount of attention and intuitiveness regardless of size, shape or color. Theirs is a family, a tribe, a communal consciousness that I feel tremendously grateful and lucky to have not only experienced but to forever be a part of. I have followed Misha throughout the last 6 years to a few different shops. Not only are her skills WAY above and beyond expectation, but Zulu is the most comfortable, professional and top of the line shop out there. Pros: Clean, creative, comfortable and professional. Cons: Parking can be tough, but welcome to LA!

I waited 10 years for my first tattoo and it was well worth the wait! Roni Zulu has completed all of the tattoos that I have (4 in all). Each one is special and has great meaning to me and anyone who knows me can look at them and see "me". I have a half sleeve that my husband designed and Roni took it up several notches :-) I receive lots of compliments on the shading work and when folks find out that the only outline is of the main piece while the remainder is shading they are amazed. I consider each tattoo that I have a piece of living art and my body happens to be the canvas. There are additions that I need to make to a couple of pieces as more spirit has come through each piece. Roni, I do need to make an appointment ;-) and thanks bunches! Pros: great artist, great vision, dedication to the art Cons: $$$, but some art is priceless!

So, this is my first time writing a review and I do so hesitantly as I am selfish! lol I've been contemplating getting my fourth tattoo for the past few years. It was really important for me to find someone to sketch the design I had in my mind that would honor loved ones. I looked around online and stumbled upon Zulu Tattoo. I looked at all the artists on the site and liked Mishas work the best (she does GREAT floral designs!) I emailed her with questions, which she promptly answered. I had 2 consultations before I actually started the tattoo. I have one more session to go but I am totally in love with my tattoo and I totally have a "Girl crush" on Misha, she is AMAZING! She specializes in darker skin so that made me feel much more comfortable that my design would be good (I've been told I couldn't get color on my tattoos bc I am a medium skin toned black female at other shops! ) I forget to get the Ointment that zulu sells and Khani was even kind enough to mail it to me free of charge! Once I get this tattoo finished I want to expand on one of my old ones....so hey... I take that back Zulu Tattoo is the worst don't go so there will be plenty of appointments for me! lol j/k These are a great set of people, FABULOUS & unpretentious ! They're on my Christmas card list this year! ; ) lol Pros: Specializes in darker skin tones, great artistic skill! Located near famous stars & straps store lots of hot guys around! Cons: No Parking but I can usually find some up the way!

I got my first tattoo here. Misha was super professional and kept me feeling safe the whole time. Artists here have awesome work. I am very happy with my tattoo. I am so glad I came to this shop for it. I highly recommend!! Pros: Beautiful art, very nice shop, professionalism all the way Cons: Maybe a bit pricy for some, but it is very much worth every penny.

I finally got my first tattoo with Sameerah. She's awesome! Really friendly and really comforting artist. She's really cool as a person and was pretty flexible with my change in decisions. Her work is very professional. She does not rush u into getting your tattoo, but rather make sure that u decide on something u really like. The whole process made me feel that my tattoo is very valuable! The atmosphere is very spa-like. It's not like one of those "hardcore" tattoo shops that make u doubt its hygiene and quality. Although it is pricy, it is worth it because a tattoo is permanent. I'd definitely recommend Zulu tattoo. Pros: Great artists, great atmosphere, very professional Cons: Parking
