never any attitude from the staff. prices are a little on the high end, but it is an upscale place so this is expected. the dishes are some of the best around, but most of them are non-traditional, so if you're looking for traditional sushi, then this may not be the best place for you.
Pros: sushi, decor, service
Cons: none

i dont know what all these people are complaining about service for. if you come once and throw a fit about 3 people on a 2 person table, you need to go to california pizza kitchen or something because your a panzy. i sit with 3 people at a 2 person table all the time, and ive never had a problem. tables have 4 sides. dont be retarded.
the sushi here is the best in la period.
Pros: food, area
Cons: nothing

I'm surprised curry spots didn't make it on the most recent round-up of the Sawtelle corridor...it's a favorite food among the Japanese-American community and there are lots of options when it comes to finding a curry restaurant. Hurry Curry is one of the best, in my opinion. It's a cute little restaurant tucked away in the plaza across fr Nijiya market, and has all the traditional curry dishes - pork, chicken cutlet, tofu, veggie, ground beef - you name it. You can go crazy looking for parking but there is valet; and it's close to so many other shops of interest that the entire trip to the Westside is worth it.
Pros: Delicious food, gorgeous little restaurant
Cons: Parking can be crazy

Though I wouldn't call myself a sushi connoisseur, I have eaten at a number of different places around town. This one is by far one of the best values. It's upscale without being trendy or snobby or too expensive.
I've eaten there 3 times now and each time was great. The food is terrific. The ambiance is quiet, chill, and clean. My wife and I last went on a weekend and it wasn't very busy...(I'm surprised they don't get more business). It's definitely a place that we would eat at again.

Lunch or dinner Takami is the place to be if you’re downtown Los Angeles. With multiple kitchens providing traditional Japanese dishes to Sushi to the Robata Bar there is something for everyone in your party. Do you have someone at your table that just can’t get the idea of raw fish past their nose? Try the Robata Bar! The baby lamb chops are out of this world. A skewer of Chilean Sea Bass is cooked to buttery perfection.
Sushi lover? In addition to tradition sushi rolls Takami has some of the best signature rolls in town! The Takami Roll is probably my favorite with Spicy Tuna, Snow Crab, Asparagus and Albacore drizzled with Apple Ponzu Sauce. The Sashimi is always fresh and sliced in healthy size pieces. Don’t forget the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice or the Tropical Avocado Bowl. Yum!
The servers and managers go out of their way to complete the experience. You can sit and never be rushed out of your table or you can let them know you are limited for time and every effort is made to accommodate your schedule.
Nice folks! Great Food! Beautiful restaurant!
It’s a great experience and a fun place to take out-of-towners too.
Enjoy!
Pros: Something for everyone
Cons: Can't think of one

The food here is A++. Me and a group of friends went for a friend's birthday. When our party arrived, they walked us to our table, they pull back curtains and revealed a private room for our group of 8. It was FANTASTIC. Our waitress was super attentive (although there is quite a bit of running around that goes on, as it is such a busy establishment). She was wonderful. The fish is soo fresh, it is amazingly wonderful. I had the jalepeno yellowtail sashimi for appetizer and it is to die for. Along with that I had the crispy rice with spicy tuna...my absolute favorite dish. I wasn't that fond of the shisito peppers appetizer (it was a little underseasoned ...like it needed a bit of acid or something). And the miso soup was classic. For dinner I had a spicy tuna sushi roll with rock shrimp on top of it (EXCELLENT) and salmon sushi (SUPER FRESH). I recently went to the Brentwood location and loved the ambiance even more...it's more rectangle and large (as opposed to the hollywood location that is split into areas and divided by the reception/bar area. Both are uber trendy and the food was equally excellent at both locations. The creme brulee was pretty good.. and I also had an apple tart like thing...which was decent. Bottom line is that I'm a huge sushi fanatic and the freshness and quality is exceptional at these two restaurants. I'm gonna try Nobu next and let you know what I think!
Pros: The freshness and quality of the sushi
Cons: A little haphazard service...but if you're used to ethnic restaurants....then it's very good!

It really is great food and a fun atmosphere but you have to get there early! It's a very unique experience: you have to eat quick or you will feel like they are rushing you, going in a party of more than two-three guarantees a REALLY long wait or you wont be seated together. BUT still, the food is worth it. The owner is interesting, he will not argue with you if you don't hear your name- he will just rush you out! I go there pretty often and he recognizes me but I still get the same service. This place isn't about customer service so really keep that in mind. 5 STARS.
Pros: Tasty food, cool atmosphere
Cons: Long wait

My gf and I went there on 12/3 after reading about it on LA weekly. It's a pretty small place. When we entered, the hostess told us that if we wanted to sit at the sushi bar, we don't get to choose our own dishes! The chef will prepare dishes for us and he'll continue to do so until we say "stop". We were somewhat prepared for something like this after reading the LA Weekly review... so we decided to give it a try. Let me just say that it was the best sushi experience either of us ever had! He served, among other things, yellowtail, seabass, scallops, and toro hand rolls. I don't know what it is... but he does a great job!!!! I highly recommend this place as long as you understand the house rules. Oh... but keep in mind that it's a little pricey. I think it was close to twice as much as we'd normally pay.
Pros: The Sushi!!!!
Cons: The Bill!!!!

My boyfriend and I have been frequenting Yoshi Sushi regularly for more than two years. We love it! We often order their specialties; blue fin tuna, lobster rolls, and their amazing live scallop, which is prepared as a two-part meal. Half of it is raw and delicate, and the other part is cooked with mushrooms, special sauce with spices. We love their miso sea bass, which is a warm tender dish, and very comforting. There is always a scurry over it when it arrives to the table, no matter how many orders we place! My uni with quail egg is always fresh and the perfect temperature. (Something that has often been inconsistent, in my 25 years of ordering it in other sushi bars.) Two of my favorites are the salmon pate which is a sashimi diced dish topped with jalapenos, and the tuna poki, which is cubed tuna tossed with fresh seaweed in a sesame seasoning. We also like the goyza pork dumplings with the teriyaki dipping sauce.
As you can see we primarily order sushi?s or sashimi?s, but have many friends that we have taken there that are not really fish eaters. I cannot speak for the dishes they order, but I can say that EVERY ONE of our friends, who have tried it, loves Yoshi?s.
We have a hard time going anywhere else now because it is so consistent, and fresh and that is always so when you go to other sushi bars!"
Pros: Great food and really friendly, helpful service.
