Sak's formulates their own teriyaki sauce and is it yummy. The food is made fresh while you stand there, or call ahead and pick it up in 5 minutes. Chicken teriyaki and gyoza are my family's favorites. Friendly and efficient staff too.

Every time I walk past Gushi and see people eating anything other than the kalbi plate I feel sorry for them. That is the one and only thing I order there and I crave it all the time. Gushi is even worth the drive around the block in search for an open parking space.
Pros: The food and the prices
Cons: Finding parking, the kimchee

I am really picky when it comes to sushi, but I love this place. I'm pretty much only get the spicy scallop roll, but I've tried other stuff and it's just as good. Hidden gem for sure. Love it!
Pros: Spicy Scallop, prices
Cons: nada

I arrived at the restaurant today pretty early and right away I could tell that this is a traditional Japanese sushi place: it is not too big and there was only one chef and one waitress (traditional sushi restaurants usually don't have too many chefs because they take sushi seriousely and won't risk ruining their reputation by hiring just anybody).
Since I was the only one there at the time, I was able to see exactly how the chef was preparing each dish. I was very pleased at how hard he tried to preserve the natural flavor of each fish: washes his hands before making every dish, uses different plates for sauced dishes, and I believe he even used different knives to cut different fish. I was pleased with the freshness of the fishes as well.
Since it is a traditional sushi restaurant, I feel like there are a few things I should point out to new sushi lovers.
1. If you like restaurants that put a lot of sauces on their sushi/rolls, then this is probably not the place for you. Traditional sushi chefs try to deliver the natural flavor of the fish to their customers, so if you are used to a heavier flavor, the sushi might taste bland for you. In my opinion, natural flavor sushi taste the best, too much sauce just ruins it (but don't get me wrong, some modern sushi chefs are able to compliment the flavor of fishes with different sauces, it is just really hard to find one).
2. Omakase is probably the best thing to order there, just let the chef bring out his freshest fish to you.
3. I don't think it is worth going to that restaurant if you are gonna order anything other than sushi, even if it is sashimi. I believe this is why the place had some bad reviews. Like I said before, traditional sushi chefs take their sushi very seriousely, and some are willing to protect their flavor even if it means kicking out the customers. Some might say this is unreasonable and they are not in Japan anymore. But to me, conforming to their rules is worth it for good sushi.
Pros: Fresh and traditional sushi
Cons: Maybe the price, though it is not uncommon to pay above $100 at some really good sushi places

I absolutely love this restaurant. Whenever anyone comes in from out of town, I take them to Niko Niko's! There's a picture menu of all the sushi rolls for those who are visual people, and there are tons of different rolls to choose from. Now for those who do not like too much sauce on your sushi--hello! Look at the picture! If you see sauce, then there will be sauce on your sushi roll. You have the option to ask for it without sauce. The wait is never very long, and the waitresses are friendly. The prices for sushi are really really cheap too! Two people can get out of there for under $20! An added bonus for me is the staff is not overly friendly or annoying attentive. They will make sure and place your first order, but if you decide to order more you may need to catch them walking past. I prefer this to the constant asking "is everything ok for you?" every two minutes by some other restaurants. Once you've placed your order, it takes about 5-10 mins and you have all your food, even on a busy day! This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in LA!
Pros: Awesome Sushi, Great Service, Great Prices-Need I say More?
Cons: There's not one closer to my house?

I am relatively new to the sushi world and I've never been to any of the 'famous' sushi places (i.e. Koi, Nobu, etc.). That being said ... I have a hard time believing that they are any better than what I ate at Kiku last night. It was awesome! I tried several different rolls and each was outstanding. I sat at the sushi bar and the service was great. Vince (the sushi chef) was outstanding ... even slipped me a sample of one of his personal favorites (was the best thing I ate all night).
For those that enjoy a low-key sushi experience with outstanding flavors, etc ... you gotta try this place. I've been in L.A. now for a few weeks on business and I've been to several different sushi spots for lunch or dinner ... this so far was the best.
Enjoy.
Pros: Good Service, good sushi, good prices
Cons: no fountain drinks (pop in a can)

I went to Club Sushi recently and got a lot more than i expected from a sushi place. Of course i knew it was gonna attempt to be a trendy place, but the entire restaurant layout was dope. Then we had some of the better sushi ive had in Hollywood, and then proceeded straight to their bar. Not to mention the DJ was playing all hiphop, that real music too! So we wound up staying a lot longer than expected. Definitely worth checking out
Pros: Food, Music, Setting
Cons: Got distracted by the hot waitresses

I use to hate this restaurant but not anymore. This restaurant carries a new sake called: Kamenoo and Tenmei daiginjo. These two sakes taste so good better than Kubota, or Onigoroshi. Just try it and eat some of their appitizers.

This is one of those places that you go to for Special Occasions AND, if you feel like conversing. It is a quiet place, elegant, beautiful oasis-type view (they created a lovely Japanese garden in the middle of downtown) and the service is generous and cordial. Oh, and the food is very good, too.
Pros: Ambience, hospitable service and good food
Cons: None
