I highly recommend going to HD Buttercup if you enjoy being sold defective products from huge jerks. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste time at this sorry place.
My wife and I purchased dinner table chairs from the Helms Ave. location. We were told they would be ordered. We received a phone call saying our items had come in. It was clear when we showed up that these were the badly worn store model items, as two of the chairs had severe gashes in them. However, the warehouse people insisted they had been ordered in for us. Their response was, "we'll re-order ." At this point, I had been lied to twice.
A few days pass and I receive a phone call, informing me that the order had come in. This time, they wrapped the chairs up to make it look like they were ordered. However, these were the same store model chairs! This is the third time they have lied to us!
I called the manager. I was put through to voice mail, then received a phone call from someone else - apparently the resident 'tough guy.' He had no response to my comment that we have been lied to three times about the bait-and-switch, and offered us the opportunity to return the items, or an insultingly low 5% off the price off the two most gashed chairs.
What's with this place? Where is even an ounce of customer service?
My wife and I have been furnishing our new home, and have been frequently faced with bait-and-switch schemes. This is definitely one of them. Skip HD Buttercup.
Cons: Bait and switch techniques

Manutailing. Ever heard of that? Neither have I, til I stepped inside Buttercup. They claim to bring manufacturers direct to the retail market. Nice concept if you can get it to work because I expected much lower prices. The article about Buttercup charging their vendors 30-50% of their sales instad of rent must be valid. They must jack up their prices to pay the landlord. Buttercup seems to be stocked with asian closeouts priced way more than they are worth. The staff seems trendy enough to perpetuate the size and glitz of this 100,000+ sq foot shop. Sorry to say that all that glitters isn't gold. Some of them are knowledgeable about the product when I inquired but some of them might as well have been selling clothing at Banana Republic. At least there are labels detailing the materials on clothes. Maybe there should be more managerial presence in the store to support the staff on tough questions. Some of them seemed to have that lost look in the eyes. Got to give them respect for going after customers really hard. Commission jobs can be stressful, but there is nothing worst than seeing the look of desperation on a sales staff. It just takes away from a pleasant shopping experience when being asked every five minutes if I need any help. I got a glimmer of hope when I saw across the street there was an annex. Sorry to say there weren't much in deals there either. A $1500 sectional that felt like a torture device when I sat down in it. If you look really hard you might find chatchkes to give away as cheap gifts. It might just have a dent or chip in it that you have to overlook or give it to someone you don't care too much about. No wonder their former CFO, Pejman Sabet was involved in insider stock trading. In a troubling economy such as ours you can certainly find much better deals on the same exact merchandise on Wilshire. All along Venice the shops are all having sales. Guess Buttercup doesn't care about staying in business. Pride cometh before the fall.
Pros: 2 hour parking for Father's office and tea forest
Cons: poor merchandised environment

no one is going to hold your hand here- but that is fine with me. Look for deals because you can find incredible pieces for sometimes half of other retailers prices.

I go here for furniture, birthday gifts and to see what new designers they have. Like visiting a museum for the afternoon. Staff is helpful.

My wife and I have been to H.D.Buttercup many times over the past few years and each time we felt overwhelmed by this gigantic store and left without making a purchase.
Our last visit however was a much different experience, manly due to the fact that the store had the sense to add interior designers to their staff.
Upon arrival we were greeted by one of them and instead of the meaningless "how are you" he wanted to know if we "where on a mission". In fact, we were; we've been thinking about redoing hour living room for quite a while, but really didn't know what to change and how to put it all together.
He sat down with us and drew up our current floorplan, discussed the way we use the room and what we had in mind for the future; one of the may questions he asked, was if we have kids or animals, because that would impact not only the amount of seating, but also the fabrics we should consider for our new upholstery...
After about half an hour, we had a fantastic new layout for the room. With his knowledge of the inventory of the store, he was able to guide us directly to pieces that worked for us.
Needless to say, this time we didn't leave without buying anything, we got most of our room squared away that day.
We can highly recommed H.D.Buttercup as well as Boris Eckey, the designer that was taking care of us.
We love our new living room; the layout makes the room feel twice it's size and all of the furniture looks amazing.
Final thought: if you feel like your getting overwhelmed by all the choices in this huge store, let one their designers help you!
Pros: Great designer
Cons: Very big

The place offers basically no deals simply because they charge so much money to the vendors in there, that they have to jack up their prices to the hilt to fall back on their feet. Disgruntled sales people, for the most part clueless about the product. Their delivery service is a nightmare... Makes you wonder who manages this place. In a few words... it is a mess.. In an economy the shape of ours you will find plenty of great deals in many other places struggling to stay in business....
