What can I say? It's an LA staple -- along with Musso and Franks, Mel's, Canter's, etc. The hot dogs are all great, and the variety is exhaustive. My favorite -- the Chicago, spicy Polish. You can't miss.
Pros: The Dogs
Cons: The Lines

The Apple Pan has been around for at least 50 years. Same guys have been the servers for almost that many. Quick service, consistency, quality ingredients, and amazing burgers and pie. I've been going there for 20 years.
Pros: Hickory Burger, Steak Burger, Tuna Sandwich, and all Pies
Cons: They need a "take a number" system to seating.

The meal at Sona lived up to all the hype I've heard. The sweet corn chowder started the meal wonderfully, followed by the melt in your mouth beef tenderloin and short ribs. A companion and I split an ounce of the wagyu beef just to try it and it, for me, beat the wagyu at Cut. For dessert definitely try the fried lemon meringue pie. It's unique and flavorful.
Our waiter expertly recommended wines and we all left very full and incredibly satisfied. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
Pros: attentive service, excellent wine list, incredible food

I went to the Sunday night show at the Cicada Club to see Richard Halpern's Roaring Twenties Revue. First, the food. I recommend the scallop and risotto appetizer. It was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. For the entree I enjoyed the lamp chops. Cooked just right -- juicy and and delicious.
Second, the entertainment. This night featured Halpern's 1920's era band with a fantastic dance number by special guest Chester Whitmore (one of the top tap dancers in the country). Later the Cicada Club's elevator boy Kid Watson performed a surprisingly good dance routine. Quite a few people were dressed in 1920's attire that added to the atmosphere. You really have to see this for yourself. Nothing like it. Great fun.
Pros: Great food, unique venue
Cons: none

My friends took me to the Velvet Margarita for my 21st birthday last weekend. What a great place for a party! The staff was very accommodating, from the Host, who made sure our large group was well taken care of, to our Server, who was attentive to a fault, and the Bartenders, who made us stiff drinks all night long! We stayed at our table for over 4 hours and they never made us feel rushed at all. They even put a candle in the Chocolate Mousse Cake and sang me Happy Birthday! Afterwards, we decided to hang out at the Patio Bar. Excellent DJ played a nice mix & we danced all night. What a great birthday! Thanks Velvet Margarita ? we?ll be coming back!
Pros: Service, atmosphere, patio bar, great food

This is by far my favorite place to eat Mexican food at on the west coast; at least, my favorite place north of the border.
For starters, I'd k1ll for their guacamole recipe. El Tepeyac is the only place I have ever been that had better guacamole than I can make on my own. Their salsas are top notch too; especially the ranchero salsa (I believe) that they put in the Hollenbeck burritos.
It's hard to pick a favorite plate here. Their enchiladas are outstanding because of the red guisada they're covered in. The shredded beef they put in the beef enchiladas is also always cooked to perfection.
Their refried beans are outstanding. The only other restaurant I know where they're as good is back in Texas. The rice is consistently good too.
All of that leads me to their burritos. I'm a Texas boy and we don't eat burritos, but I gotta recognize game here. The Hollenbeck burritos (especially my favorite, the Hollenbeck de machaca) are really without peers. They're a combination of my favorite guacamole I have ever had, one of my favorite salsas, outstanding beans and rice, and delicious shredded meats (+ egg in the machaca). Last but not least, they're huge. It has been a year since I have had the pleasure of eating there, but I last recall the burrito being something like $8; a hell of a value.
The taquitos covered in guacamole are outstanding, and I have always enjoyed the T-bone with grilled jalapenos and onions. The shrimp in mojo de ajo were equally great when I had them.
Pros: love the salsa, the gucamole, the red guisada on the enchila
Cons: Waiting outside for a spot to open is almost guaranteed

My girlfriend and I always eat and drink at good. What a great place and find in our neighoorhood. Good food nice vibe and the staff is always very attentive. Good has it's own crowd and it's a real cool place. Once you plug into the vibe here you understand why its' called good! Other places are wanna be's when it comes to the beers at good microbrew.
Pros: Service and food

Worth the drive to Eagle Rock!! If these 130+ reviews don't convince you to go here, Jonathan Gold's LA Weekly article will. The famous critic can't say enough about Casa Bianca's pizza pie. It really is that darn good! The crust on the thin side, the marinara on the spicy side, and the cheese covering almost all the way to the edges and baked to perfection. You don't need to say "extra crispy". The pizza does not flip or flop around, it's cut into wonderful little slices that are easily, but not mindlessly, devoured. When my boyfriend and I took a recommendation and ventured to this suburban spot we had high hopes, but were extremely impressed and our expectations were exceeded. Friendly staff, comfortable dining area, homey decor. I like plain cheese pizza and my boyfriend likes pepperoni, so we get 1/2 and 1/2, both are great. Casa Bianca isn't typical big ol' slices, but the flavor bursts and confirms the decision to branch out and give somewhere besides Village a try for some pie. OH and they're open late! So rare in l.a. and so convenient.
Pros: everything-pizza, staff, price, decor, parking
