Runyon Canyon is many things to many Angelinos. For some, it’s a free way to torch calories after a night of too many cosmos and 3 a.m. Pho. For others, it’s a place to go for quiet contemplation and free, yes free, yoga! While both are great reasons to visit the hills just above Hollywood Blvd., (East of Fairfax and West of La Brea) let’s discuss the more subconscious reason people love it … Runyon Canyon is one of the only hyper friendly places in L.A. People there actually smile, make eye contact and say good morning to total strangers while puffing up the mountain. It’s as if for one brief moment, everyone around you is from the mid-west!
This city of “Angels” often seems like a living oxymoron. The initial heavenly glow can get smoggy, and loneliness sets in pretty quickly when you’ve lived here for one month and still haven’t been discovered. So, the next time you need a smile or some company, just head to the canyon we all know and love for a little indirect TLC.
Pros: friendly happy place where you burn calories for free
Cons: smells like, um doggie doo when it's hot out, gross

Music aficionados would always need a home, thus Amoeba Music was spawned. The sense of place claims a warehouse atmosphere, white and standard with the countless music posters and artwork on the wall that suggests a sense of colorful frenzy. There are many layers of rows of plastic: CDs, LPs, DVDs, Lasers, Videos, Tapes.
Amoeba Music is an independent music chain in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Hollywood, California. It first opened on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley in 1990.
The Southern California location was added in November 2001, the store opened a new branch in Hollywood, on Los Angeles' legendary Sunset Boulevard (at Cahuenga Boulevard.) (See article.) At the time of its opening, the store was planned to stock as many as 250,000 titles, which would place the store among the largest independent music stores in the world. According to Los Angeles Times writer Michael Hiltzik, the location "instantly became a Hollywood landmark." [1] The L.A. location, at 31,000 square feet, is, it claims, the world's largest indie store. What’s a bonus is that the stores are staffed by serious record freaks who are experts on everything in stock.
A large portion of the stores' business is in used merchandise. Patrons of the store can sell their used music and movies to the store for half of the retail value in cash or 2/3 supposed retail value in store credit. This can be credited to the huge success in earnings despite the profit downfall in the music industry.
The California chain (with stores in Berkeley, San Francisco and L.A.) makes up to sixty percent profit on used CDs, while commercial chains are stuck eking out a twenty percent markup on new CDs alone.
"Big retailers can't keep business going on those margins," says Karen Pearson, co-owner of the L.A. store, "and the consumer gets cheated and pissed off."

El Cid is the hip you can not dispute it, all you little babies complaining about the prices and the food need to calm down. They have $3 Tecate and the tapas menu is great. Monday nights are the best, big name comics and young wipper snappers mix it up all for free and so fun, oh yeah and there is street parking
Pros: great vibe, great taste in shows, hip beautiful people, best place for the summer is the patio, monday nights are the best night
Cons: they close at midnight on mondays

Forget the naysayers. If you love karaoke, you need to at least check it out.
Hopefully this finds some people who just love karaoke and will see the charm. Yes, it's busy on weekends, and you have to sign up early. No, the DJs aren't "biased." The bartenders are generous, and the drinks are far from overpriced. Every server there is on it.
The food is actually surprisingly great. Try the burger w/ swiss, bacon, mushrooms, and avocado. Tell me that isn't one of the best burgers you'll find in the area (or city for that matter).
Pros: everything, if you're into karaoke
Cons: can get crowded on weekends

Very friendly, not "in your face" but there to help. They gladly demonstrate ( well not 100%) and describe exactly how an item would be used if you have questions. They take the time to ensure you know what you are getting. They have a great selection. They have great hours - open late. The only drawback is the prices are a little steep, but this is true of the sex induistry in general...
One never be embarrassed or feel like they're being scrutinized or judged in any way. Relaxed atmosphere. I'd reccommend it to anyone - even my mom, but she's pretty liberal. Can't say enough nice things about the Pleasure Chest. An asset to Los Angeles/West Hollywood.
Thanks guys!

Rolling Stones, all the way. I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl, which is my favorite place in L.A to see a big concert. The Stones still sounded good, too. Rough, but they made you want to move. The sound was excellent, and the venue is beautiful. The bandshell is attractive and you can't beat the location, right in the Hollywood Hills, one of a small handful of natural ampitheaters in the US. No disrepect to the Beatles, a great band, but they have been done for 35 years, and Paul McCartney is pretty corny left to his own devices. I love Ringo, but what can you say? The guy starred in Caveman.
