I live in Silver Lake so I'm not too far from 55 Degree wine bar. I stopped in on my way home from work and had a lady give me lots of information about wines, gave me suggestions (since I said I wanted to try something new, good and inexpensive), and told me all about their wine tasting events. I was quite impressed with the service, wines and the beautiful store. The underground cellar where they conduct the wine tastings is a place that I intend to visit in the very near future. Just saw their July offer. If that's not an incentive, I don't know what is!!!
Pros: Employees expertise with regards to wine

been there a handful of times. went during the day, but i wouldn't recommend that. too bright and too much traffic to really thoroughly enjoy the place. go when it's dark and now it's a different story. quaint and can be romantic.

This place is great for many reasons. The first is the wine shop. The owner can help you out with anything. Give him price, taste or even the items you happen to be cooking with and he hits every time. But... more importantly, you have to go for the sandwiches. The turkey sandwich is unbeatable and the caprese is a great veggie option. Snag a bag of chips and some olives from the check out register, and you'll come back a thousand times. You just may have to wait 20 minutes to get in and out.
Pros: Sandos
Cons: Wait

We entered this hotel and was in awe of the beauty and size of this property. Valet was efficient and fast. We stopped by the lounge to have a cocktail and the lounge and staff was very friendly. We had plans to attend a party that evening, getting into a cab that accomodated 4 of us had us concerned but the staff found us on within minutes of us walking out to the street. We were treated with the utmost respect and with courteous faces. We recommend this hotel highly.
Pros: Spacious suites
Cons: Finding a parking to check in was a challenge.

if you ever want to get a friend a nice bottle of something for their birthday, anniversary, bar mitzvah, or other, check out this unique little boutique party store on melrose. Carlos and Steve, the co-proprietors of this fashionable little shop, will take good care of you. If they have deals going on certain beers, and you're about to stupidly buy the more expensive one, they'll tell you. Although that might be just me, because I'm there like every day.

Beverage Warehouse won't be winning any awards for decor or trendy staff anytime soon, but this place rules nonetheless. My first experience here was arriving with a French friend and a Belgian friend, and buying several hundred dollars' worth of beer to try. This was when I was first introduced to Chimay, Duval, Kwak, Lindemans, and Delirium, among much else. I've been here even for sodas; one of the best they've ever had was called Afri Cola; the only soft drink I've seen made with filtered water and cane sugar, from Germany of all places. Sadly, I have heard it's been discontinued and haven't seen it in some time. I've rented kegs and their 30-day return policy is awesome and their prices very reasonable. It's very difficult to find. When on Culver, turn east on McConnell when you see the DirecTv building. Go all the way down until you see a strip mall made up of warehouses. They're all the way in the back with a green sign and shopping carts out front. They're open to the public.
Pros: prices, selection
Cons: staff

I make it a point to stop by Marukai at least once a month to stock up on all things Japanese. They carry great snack items and sweets like seaweed-wrapped rice crackers, pocky, fruit gummies and an assortment of milky chocolates. There's an extensive array of drinks including green tea, Hawaiian Sun canned fruit drinks and canned milk coffee. In the frozen foods section you can find packages of steamed pork buns, fish-balls and shrimp-filled dumplings. By the entrance to the store is a "ready made" section stocked with delicious bento boxes, spamusubi, baked goods and mochi. Don't forget the $1.50 area for kitchen utensil, stationery goods and various household items.
Pros: Fresh food, Friendly Staff, Low Prices
