Every Wednesday and Friday you'll find us here. Wednesdays are no corkage and George will keep your glass filled, Fridays get a little crazy but are always a blast. You can do a tasting of 5 wines (usually 2 whites and 3 reds for $15) or just go with the heavy pour by-the-glass. The wines they find are truly inspired, inexpensive and delicious. The cool thing is you can bring home a bottle or even a case of that crazy good Malbec you tried for the first time without mortgaging your future. This is just the best, most comfortable wine store/bar in the known world that is Eagle Rock and all points beyond!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing (OK, maybe the air conditioner could be beefed up a little when it gets crowded)

I don't know much about wine, so I can't comment on that... but their gift selection is damned amazing. They have a ton of really unique toys and novelties, kitchen gadgets, bags, wine racks, salt/pepper shakers, serveware... but nothing that you'll ever see in a big-box store. All of their inventory has really eye-catching design.
Very friendly service, and they threw in gift wrapping.
Definite recommend for folks looking for unique, and sophisticated gifts.
Pros: Unique gifts, friendly service, free gift wrapping
Cons: none

This place has everything. Olives in barrels, dozens of spices and spice mixes, cheese, wine, and a small selection of normal market goods (like crackers and soft drinks). Small, but well organized. Great selection of flavored mayos, mustards, vinegars, and such.
Pros: Selection and convenience
Cons: Not for normal grocery shopping

excellent karaoke nights on thursdays! the kj is very good, patient, and friendly. the waitresses are also very nice. from time to time very good singers come, but you will see some regulars who sing and perform very well. thursdays nights (6-10p) are definitely fun, fun fun!!!- a lost jewel in downtown LA, located in the "nice area" of downtown.
Pros: karaoke, good rotation, friendly service
Cons: from time to time it gets empty.

Not as big as Marukai, but still a great selection of Japanese products. The best part is the food court. They have the best ramen house called Sanoku!! Best ramen I've ever had!

If you live in the Silver Lake area, you know this is the place to get your wine on! When they first opened, it spread like wildfires. All of a sudden, everyone knew about this place. They have the most diverse collection of wines. And the best part is...they have very knowledgeable staff and their wines range anywhere from $10 on. You can actually buy an excellent bottle for only $10 or $15! They also have a wide array of imported beers. Now they've expanded to unique hard liquor too. They have about 3 wine tastings a week. It's like a party there. The downside is parking. There's a lot that gets filled quickly, or try your luck on the streets.

I haven't had a chance to explore the shop or the new restaurant, but attended a wine tasting event and had a phenomenal time. The sommelier was funny, engaging and very knowledgeable. The wines were interesting and showcased the vast range of taste and aromas involved in wine. The appetizers were delectable and based on them, I will definitely check out the restaurant "upstairs" soon. Check this place out! The area is a bit shady but inside it's very nice.
Pros: Great Wine Tasting
Cons: Bad location

We discovered this neighborhood market inside the Japanese Village. It was good. I like the quick lunch packages that are quite healthy with variety of vegetable and handful of steam rice. They do not have a big staff, but they are helpful. check it out.
Pros: nice lunch boxes
Cons: need more home cleaning supplies in stock
