There's only one word to describe Haas & Co, and Pilen for that matter - AMAZING. Hey, I'm a guy who doesn't enjoy getting my hair cut (among other things) but I have been seeing Pilen for over 15 years and he has never done anything but an amazing job on my hair! It's one thing to get compliments about your style, or looks but when women go out of their way to comment on how good your hair cut looks, you know someone's doing something right. Not sure what's up with the unhappy bride ... maybe she was on a budget ... every woman I know who has gotten married has paid hundreds or even thousands of dollars for their (& bridesmaids) hair - mostly because I think the hairdresser needs to spend so many hours with them and, hey, you gots to pay the piper! GO PILEN ... I'm one big fan!
Pros: Style! Great conversationist Value
Cons: Those damn spherical lightbulbs

Years ago, when traffic was the daily bane of my existence and I cared (only slightly) more about celebrity gossip, one of the happiest Los Angeles rituals I look back upon were those visits to my man, Pilen.
I have since relocated to San Francisco, where I've tried and tried (but CANNOT) match Pilen's quality and mastery with scissors. Otherwise, San Francisco is a pretty great place.
You can imagine my atonishment to see that nasty Pilen review below. My friends, Pilen is NOT dishonest. He is a sweet man, a kind soul, and MOST importantly, he KNOWS how to work a mean style on your head. The person below obviously had some sort of miscommunication, and I've seen a lot of friends pay too much for "wedding hair." (Oh, I went there!)
If I was still in LA, I'd hire him for my wedding, pretty much at any price. I'd recommend him to anyone.
In fact, I did recommend him to a good girlfriend. And she's stayed with him for YEARS.
Now, for the GOOD stuff. Case in point, Pilen can style hair for people like myself (who are incapable of good hair days), and man, for the 2-3 days after he cuts it, it looks amazing. If I could wait any longer to wash it, you know I would.
What's MORE! In the 3 months after my cut (yes, I wait that long) the hair still looks damn good. Especially considering I do nothing with my hair. Imagine the possibilities for motivated hair doers!
And so it goes. Pilen: a hair blessing. And an all around lovely person.

I went to Haas & Company regularly for the past several years and had my hair highlighted, colored, and cut by Pilen. I asked Pilen to do my hair for my wedding, and he surprised me on my wedding day by charging me $550 to style my hair. He hadn't given me a written contract ahead of time and didn't tell me about the huge price jump until my hair was already done and my wedding was only in an hour. I had no choice but to pay it. However, he'd only charged my bridesmaids $85 for their style, and he still had plenty of room in the rest of the day for other appointments. He insisted that he was giving me "a deal," however the week before he had cut my hair, colored it, and did a trial style for just over $200. Plus, the style that I had on my wedding day wasn't even an updo. It was simply down with waves in it. He took advantage of me on a very important day, and after having him as my hair stylist for many years before I would never have expected it of him.
Since that time I've talked to other people who also had used him as their hairdresser, and they had similar situations where the amount he charged jumped dramatically without any prior notice. It was an awful feeling to be taken advantage of on my wedding day. I would highly recommend avoiding Pilen.

I was referred to this salon by a friend, and it's amazing. All of the staff is super friendly, and they have a variety of services like manis and pedis, as well as color and cut. I recommend Diego for cut. He's always done a really good job and also gives me tips on how to maintain the style!
Pros: good service, good cuts, nice staff
Cons: parking on Larchmont can be crazy sometimes, shop is hard to see from the street.

Michael is a great stylist, who helped me through flaking (he gave me a nice oil treatment) and gave me the best style when I decided to cut off my hair and donate it to Locks of Love. I've been going to him for about four years now and wouldn't think of having anyone else cut my hair.
PROS:
CONS: Salon look is a bit dated.
