Editorial review from Citysearch 1/26/2014

All the seats here are great - especially the cheap ones. Jumbo screens show you most of what's going on if you aren't sitting in the first two sections. Sound is great on most concerts. You can bring food and booze and enjoy music under the stars. Free shuttle from Hollywood/Highland Red Line stop. more

Music Under The Stars 10/5/2010

This is not only a fantastic music venue, but one of my favorite places in Los Angeles! There isn't a bad seat in the house. I enjoy going early and picnicing with friends before the music starts. When artists perform at the Hollywood Bowl they often change up their typical show by performing a song live for the first time or inviting special guests. Buy tickets now so you can enjoy this fantastic outdoor venue. more

Patina is the restaurant corporation, not the entertainment! 7/6/2009

At the Hollywood Bowl this past Saturday for the fireworks, Philharmonic, and Fogerty (how's that for alliteration?). Fabulous night, but we made the mistake of not bringing in our own food -- thought we'd rely on Patina for our picnic. Walking into the cafe, immediately blasted with the smell of disinfectant (oh, yum). Then the offerings were both minimal and pricey. I got 6 pieces of spicy tuna sushi, 3 strawberries, and 1/2 handful of mixed berries: $22.50. Worse than that: the sushi wasn't fresh, though I'll grant that the berries were ripe. Pros: It's available when you need it Cons: Their food offerings are awful ... and pricey! more

An Iconic Venue 11/17/2007

The Hollywood Bowl is a true Los Angeles landmark. The architecture alone has made it a definitive symbol of the city. It has been featured in countless films and even in a legendary animated Looney Tunes feature with a certain Warner Bros cartoon rabbit. I recently saw John Williams conduct the L.A. Philharmonic as they did pieces from the various film scores of John Williams. It was such a great experience. The way to go is to pack some snacks and some wine and have yourself a picnic as you enjoy some beautiful music. Just know that certain concerts do not allow food so make sure to check the Hollywood Bowl's website for their individual show policies. Pros: A Must Do if you love music Cons: It might be bad if you sit in the bleacher section and then all the people next to you are super fat more

There couldn't be a better place to watch a show! 3/21/2007

With the fresh mountain air and valley breeze, lush greenery surrounding the seating area, and the Hollywood sign as a backdrop, I don't think there is a better place to watch a show. The seating is so spacious, you can usually sit a litle closer since it's benches. I love the fact that you can bring food and wine from the outside, it's great. I've been to the Reggae Fest at the Bowl the last 2 years. and I plan to go again this year! I also had the honor of seeing the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown perform there (AMAZING!!! R.I.P.) It's so much fun, perfect for a date, or with friends, great acoustics and lighting, and if it's been parodied on ""The Simpsons"", you know it's good! Pros: Beautiful backdrop, great sound and lights Cons: Food and drinks can be expensive [Just bring your own ;O) ] more

an LA experience 11/20/2006

The best thing to do here is to get the cheap seats in the very back, and bring a fancy picnic like everyone else. A lot of people leave during intermission so sometimes you can sneak down to the better seats, though now that they have the video screens it's not so bad to be far away. more

Best venue in LA 6/10/2002

I've seen everything from Rock to Classical here, it was all fantastic. There is nothing better than to sit outside under the stars on a warm summer evening enjoying your favorite music. For those who haven't been to the Bowl I can best equate it to movies in the park during the summer. You can bring your dinner, picnic style, along with a nice bottle of wine to enjoy before the concert begins. more

Historic 6/3/2002

Always good to catch a concert at this LA landmark. The different summer series offers great shows. John Williams conducting his movie scores with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Lots of Jazz and Classical performances. I can't wait for The Who at the beginning of July (my favorite band). Just wish John Cleese would be walking around the audience shouting ""Albatross"" (see Month Python at the Hollywood Bowl). Pros: Varies types of shows, beautiful atmos Cons: parking (2B expected) more

Cheap Seats Rock! 6/2/2002

I've seen everyone from Ray Charles to the LA Philharmonic to Jane's Addiction here. The acoustics ROCK & the venue is the most beautiful venue I've seen in a city. Go to the summer series--you can get tickets for as little as $3 and there are buses to take you to the show (if you want to drink & enjoy yourself.) The bowl lets you bring in picnics AND BYOB. It's great music, an incredible sound system & a really fun crowd--esp in the cheap seats! more

Music under the stars 6/2/2002

What can be better than sipping wine and eating dessert under the stars with thousands of people around? How about you add some great music? The Hollywood Bowl is truly an icon. Great place for a date or a fun night with friends. Bring food and drink - it's the only way to listen to classical or jazz. Ticket prices from $100 to $1 (no kidding!) Pros: Stars, Music, Food & Drink Cons: Climbing the hill, parking more

A Must for Angelenos and Visitors 5/13/2002

The Bowl is one of the best things L.A. has to offer residents and out-of-town guests. There's nothing like a picnic under the stars while listening to great music on a warm L.A. night. Pick a show--any show--and plan a meal. Make this a entertainment priority this summer and every summer. Last year, I saw Cesaria Evora, Bebel Gilberto, Sade and the Playboy Jazz Festival, and each experience was a great one. The best trip to the Bowl, however, was a splurge--bought box seats, a real treat, though you can have a great time in the bleachers, as well. One warning: DO NOT park at the Bowl. Park in the garage at the corner of La Brea and De Longpre and take the shuttle. It's cheap, easy and makes the whole experience a lot nicer. Pros: Great shows, Great atmosphere, Classic L.A. Cons: Parking more
