Runyon Canyon is many things to many Angelinos. For some, it’s a free way to torch calories after a night of too many cosmos and 3 a.m. Pho. For others, it’s a place to go for quiet contemplation and free, yes free, yoga! While both are great reasons to visit the hills just above Hollywood Blvd., (East of Fairfax and West of La Brea) let’s discuss the more subconscious reason people love it … Runyon Canyon is one of the only hyper friendly places in L.A. People there actually smile, make eye contact and say good morning to total strangers while puffing up the mountain. It’s as if for one brief moment, everyone around you is from the mid-west!
This city of “Angels” often seems like a living oxymoron. The initial heavenly glow can get smoggy, and loneliness sets in pretty quickly when you’ve lived here for one month and still haven’t been discovered. So, the next time you need a smile or some company, just head to the canyon we all know and love for a little indirect TLC.
Pros: friendly happy place where you burn calories for free
Cons: smells like, um doggie doo when it's hot out, gross

Universal Studios was one of the many places we visited while in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. Although we perceived it to be more of a theme park than an actual studio, it does provide you with a glimpse (although glamorized) of the process of filming...including various special effects used, and certain sets and props (we saw the cars from the Fast and the Furious and part of the Notting Hill set, to name a few). As a theme park, it was fun...particularly if you are into movies, but even if you aren't, the rides are fun and interesting.

swork coffee is seriously one of my favorite places to grab something to drink. the drinks are delicious and i prefer theirs to starbucks anyday. also, the atmosphere here is just wonderful and very relaxed. there's also a small children's area where parents can watch their children play quietly while they have a drink.

This cemetary houses the graves of many celebrities who have passed away. I have only been to this cemetary once with some friends and we did what a lot of people do, grave hunting. It is kind of eerie and a bit morbid but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed finding the graves of celebrities I recognized.

When my kids were younger, they really enjoyed going to Travel Town and spending the day. They loved running around the trains, looking at the old museum like pieces. Sitting in them and eating there.
We adults were just happy to let them out of the house, run around, get exercise and watch them enjoy themselves!
Now, it's been handed down to my nieces and nephews. Now they love doing the very same things my kids did when they were younger! They run around the big trains, they look at the old sample museum sized pieces, they have parties in actual trains and can just be themselves.
I really recommend kids come and play here.

The Hollywood wax museum has displays of scenes from your favorite movies with wax figures. Although some of the wax figures do not look as life like as some of the others the museum is still worth taking a look at. The museum has late hours (they are open until 1 am) so it is a good place to go to end the day. You can buy a combination ticket that also gives you admission to the Guiness Book of World Records Museum that is across the street.

If you want to take an adventure in LA, you really need to check out Olvera Street aka El Pueblo de Los Angeles. It's a place filled with an amazingly rich history and it's a place to get really great tasting mexican food and sweets. There are dozens of vendors selling all sorts of things from belts and wallets to wooden snakes and paper roses. It's a great place to go if you've got some time on your hands and just want to take a little adventure.

This place is great fun, and every kid should ride a pony at least once. They match you up with a pony depending on how scared you look and how fast you look like you can handle. It's good for kids to feel like they're living their pony dreams but also reassuring for parents that they're just going in a loop. Fairly inexpensive as far as pony rides go also, and the rest of Griffith Park is beautiful as well.

Disneyland is like a magnet attracts everyone. I want to write this because I think some of the first timers forgot to go the most original theme in the park. This area is the town of where all the original characters’ home. I mean, if I ask what terms you can come out with Disney, perhaps you will answer Mickey, Minnie, etc. Their stories often happen in their houses which are the background images we have remembered. I think it is amazing to walk inside these characters homes. I am an adult, but when I walked into these homes, I still feel it is a dream comes true. It gives an illusions of these characters really exist in this place.

My friends and I go to Hollywood Billiards often and have a great time. I like the atmosphere there, it's laid back and the people that go there are always cool. The place is pretty big and the pool tables are spaced apart at a good distance as not to poke other players at the other tables.
