We stumbled upon this place -a group from Manhattan and Westchester who happened to be in the area, and loved what we found. Everyone from the owner to the all the staff was friendly, welcoming and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job and the food (a big plus in my book). The owner was especially cheerful, helpful and fun. The wine was wonderful. They have an excellent selection of Italian wines, just enough to choose from and not be overwhelmed, all good choices and price ranges. The food was SUPERB. We had a gnocchi special that was out of this world, and I generally never eat gnocchi out because it is so rarely good (I am not the one who ordered it but I ate it off my friend??????s plate). It literally melted on your tongue the moment you put it in your mouth! No kidding. The broccoli rabe was delicious, (another thing I am a very fussy about since it is my absolute favorite thing in the world). The mozzarella appetizer was so fresh it tasted like it was made moments before, I am sure it was made that morning. The desserts were unbeatable as well! The tiramisu was the real thing, not the pale comparison traipsing around Manhattan. The flourless chocolate cake was so supreme one small serving fed 4 with great satisfaction. The ricotta cheesecake, another thing that can be hard to find fresh and delicious, was light, and perfectly creamy with a little citrus-I loved it. The pace is charming and the menu is over all reasonably priced. I will travel from Manhattan as often as possible just to come here. The highlight for me again was how everyone who worked there, down to the busboy, seemed to sincerely enjoy and take pride in the delicious food they were serving. This place has a real family atmosphere where everyone enjoyed being there, especially us. I can't recommend Da Gianni enough!

My absolutely favorite italian restaurant, and this includes many a restaurants to choose from. Food is fabulous, atmosphere - like you took a trip to Italy, wine selection is very nice, Gianni himself is wonderful, warm and hospitable. A MUST for anyone who likes italian food, who doesn't know but wants to try italian food, who is just undecided on what to have for dinner. The best dish - it's super hard to separate - the are all fantastic, and I think I tried them all... there is a superb scallops appetizer, pasta dishes are delicious, chicken dishes - great, most succulent steaks, stuffed veal ... desserts... you name it, whatever your preference in food - and it's amazing. I am getting hungry just writing this. Service is a tiny bit slow, but quality of food makes up for it, and then some, and it's a pleasant wait, with soft italian music and nice friendly staff, but it is not really a place to run in and run out... and who would want to. A little pricey but nothing in comparison to those italian restaurants in Manhattan, and yet the food is probably better. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

Nicely surprised! Just went with friends on a Saturday night and had a great time. We were skeptical since no one had been there before, but the ratings were good and we really wanted to go somewhere to eat outside, so we tried it. Don't expect a view outside, but its a really cute patio. Food was very good, cosmo's were excellent, wait staff was great and the owner was very friendly. No one had a bad word to say- we will def. go back.

I absolutely love this place. The best Italian place in Queens by far--and although im Irish I love/know my Italian food. I bring everyone there for birthdays--especially mine ! Gianni is friendly and ready to please. All the fruits and vegetables as well as the desserts are fresh. Gianni goes out every morning to get the vegetables rather than buying them in bulk. If you dine on the weekends you might even have the pleasure of Gianni's young daughter taking your coats. This is a family place, but is still very quiet and intimite. I reccommend it to any one for any occasion. Pros: Food is great, the atmosphere is enjoyable Cons: Service can be slightly slow, but its just to let you digest :-)

I just moved to the neighborhood and the person who used to live in my apartment recommended Gianni's. I must say, I have spent a lot of time in Italy and da Gianni is the real deal...not American-Italian, but Italian-Italian. The ingredients are fresh and his dishes are not overly-adorned, Gianni himself is a fixture in the place and gives it a personality, he is very proud of what he does and it totally shows. This place is as straight-forward Italian as you can find in the US...simple, fresh preparation with with great ingredients. This is the "less is more" school of Italian cuisine, which to me is the most authentic. I have only eaten there a few times, but it is reasonably priced and his menu reflects the seasons...a big bonus in my book. Beautiful courtyard too (in an LIC kinda way). He also has a nice grappa ;-) Cons: service can be a little slow/lacking (but not by Gianni, he's awesome)

I was hooked on Da Gianni's from the first time I went for lunch about a year ago. The outstanding food, classy atmosphere, friendly staff, and the personality of the owner just keep me going back every week. I rarely need to look at a menu because Gianni always has something new and special to keep life exciting. The food is always fresh and the fish is prepared with innovative detail. I have tried several recommended wines and always find the experience delightful. A dinner in the garden is an especially nice experience that makes it hard to leave. With all of the qualities that I've always looked for in an Italian restaurant, I don't know way anyone would go anywhere else. Pros: food, wine, ambiance, friendly staff Cons: None

Can't get better than this! Home made Pasta prepared to perfection. Italian home style cooking with lots of varietyand light on the calories. Since finding this Gem, my husband and I can't stop coming back for more. We have tried everything from the Seafood salad to a wonderful hearty steak. No matter what we have for dinner, we always have a special pasta Gianni recommends. Don't miss out on the chocolate cake! Great wine selection. Thank you Gianni for a wonderful meal!
