The decor and area is excellent for a nice night out because it is right by the boardwalk and you get a beautiful view of Manhattan. The decor of the restaurant is really cool, memorabilia all over the walls unfortunately that is where it all ends.
Made a reservation and the hostess tells a few minutes which winds up being 30 minutes. What was the point of the reservation? The waiter's are in a rush so when they do come with food they kind of just throw the plate on your table, even dropping the plate on a lady at another table.
The entree took about 25 minutes to come and the rude waiter was not helpful in explaining the dishes to us. Overall all of this doesn't bother me just as long as the food is delicious.
I order a platter that had a lobster meat the size of an ice cube, salmon steak a little bigger than the lobster and 4 pieces of shrimp that were cut in half to give the appearance of 8 pieces. On top of that my date had undercooked pasta with ragu sauce. The food is expensive and certainly not worth it, I would stick with Red Lobster!!
Pros: great setting
Cons: long wait to be seated, for food, and service period; food not worth the price

ok so i know it is called the crab house... and ive tried the crabs and they are great.. so is the lobster, and the shrimp and the salmon.. and anything else fishy you can think of... i frequent there a lot since i live nearby...
yesterday we had lunch there and we had hamburgers.. oh my god.. this was the best most juiciest hamburger i have ever had.. .and the fries were great..
This place is one of a kind... do you know that quote... "one mans junk is another mans treasure"... thats what the walls look like... all antiquey stuff that is soo much fun too look at. when you walk in they have a boat ( literally) filled with peanuts that you can grab a bowl and a beer and hang out til your table is ready.. then you sit and have some good drinks... realllly good drinks... and then the food comes.. and its all just really good. great staff, great parking ( valet), and just a good time.. even live music on saturday night.
Pros: best food
Cons: little bit of a wait..

My husband and I love this place. The crabcakes are very good. And the servers are always very nice and prompt. It is a great place to let your hair down.

Eating at the WCH was a horrific experience. First off, since we were a party of 10 and because the service was included in the bill, it was abominable. Why? Well, it took 15 minutes for the waiter to come by and take our drink order, then another 10 minutes to bring our drinks, and then another 1520 minutes to take our dinner order, and when he finally did he was unpleasant. He huffed and puffed when asked what the side dishes were and when asked to repeat himself, he grimaced as if it pained him to open his mouth.
For the appetizer we ordered the calamari and it was really gross. It was chewy and flavorless and it tasted like a shoe. In-between the first course and the main course our waiter did not come by once to ask us how we were doing or to refill our drinks. So 20 minutes later, our main courses came and they were EXTREMELY unsatisfying. The surf n turf that my girlfriend ordered was an unsightly scene. The lobsters were paltry in size (about the size of a medium sized shrimp) and had absolutely no flavor, they could have been frozen for years for all I know, and the filet mignon was totally flavorless. The crab cakes were a better lot but not by much. My sisters $50 dollar lobster tail looked much healthier but when nibbled on; it too was bland and gummy. Come to think of it, everyone thought their food was just bad. The side dishes were just as bad. Mostly everyone at the table ordered the fried zucchini, which came with a splattered on marinara sauce and had no flavor other than grease. I ordered the onion rings which I was told were freshly battered and prepared, but which came out burnt and seemed more akin to those one would get a White Castle. Uggg!
So the bill came to $340 which is quite cheap for 10 people. We would have had a better dining experience at McDonalds! How can a restaurant serve such bad food?
It was the most UNPLEASANT restaurant experience I have ever had. Please, stay away!
Pros: None
Cons: All

I'm a local, and love coming to this place for some soft shell crabs with garlic butter sauce and old bay seasoning (on the side). While you wait for the crabs, there's a bath full of peanuts which keep you somewhat entertained and hunger at bay as you smell all the delicious food that people are being served.
Once the crabs arrived, it sure took time to plow through the oh so reasonably priced and oversized portion, but well worth the effort and the service was great! Don't forget to dip the herb crusted bread sticks that they give you in the seasoning - yum!
The easiest way to get there if you're coming from Manhattan is to take the Water Taxi from 34th Street, just a few steps away from the Crabhouse! Or if you have a good sense of direction, the 7 train is pretty close too.
Makes a great day out as once you're finished dining on crabs what better way to spend the rest of the afternoon/evening than having a few beers at the Water Taxi Beach - a totally hidden treasure!

Unlike the poor experience of a previous reviewer, my experience was exceptional. I didn't have reservation, so the wait was an hour for six of us, but it was well worth the wait. The blue claw maryland style crabs were fresh and delicious!! I asked the server if they ever run out of crabs and she expained that they come in fresh daily becasue they don't like to order too many so they are always fresh and that was why they sometimes run out quickly!!!The service was friendly and funny and the music was an entertaining jazzy blues band!! The hostess suggested to us making reservations on the weekend as it gets very crowded and the wait can be up to 2 hours without one. I'll know better for next time!
As if the delicious crabs weren't enough, the waterfront "crabhouse" serves the best prime rib i ever tasted!!! It was double-cut (about 2inches thick) and melted in my mouth. My friends and I each had assorted meat and seafood entrees, none of which were disappointing.
They have a variety of desserts from apple cobbler to chocolate mousse but i would suggest the "chaos" cake, a layer of chocolate brownie, a layer of cheesecake and topped with chocolate mousse. What a way to end a meal!!
The drinks at the restaurant were the cheapest around. Glasses of wine were around $5.00, mixed drinks around the same, and my cosmo was around $6.00. No bar around the area has been serving drinks that cheap for years!!!
If you're looking for a hoity toity place to eat - this isn't the place for you! But if you want a fun easy going staff with reasonable prices and the most unique decor ever, then try it out! It's well worth the trip!
Pros: fun freindly staff and great ambiance
Cons: long wait wothout reservation

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, this "crab house" seems to specialize in not having crabs. From an order of 2 crab entrees, our table received a total of ZERO. To make matters worse, we weren't notified about the lack of crabs until ~1 hour after we ordered. So, one person at our table was left without any entree to speak of while 4 others had their non-crab entrees served. To make up for this grievous and uncomfortable error, the bumbling co-manager tried to assuage us by offering some free drinks or desserts, none of which we wanted. Then she inexplicably had a mental breakdown of sorts while she proceeded to blame the cook, the owner, and the holy spirit for all the troubles related to our crab mix-up. I kept looking around for a hidden camera because I thought her dramatic display was for candid camera or some audition for Days of Our Lives.
If the other non-crab entrees were spectacular, then I might forgive the poor service and incompetent managerial staff...but alas, the entrees that succesfully made it to our table were sub-par at best. I cannot recommend anything positive about this restaurant, except that it IS near the waterfront so a suicidal jump into the water (after a frustrating dinner) only requires a very short walk...

Went with my ladyfriend last night, and we both had a great time. Full carafe of house white was delicious and cheap ($12). Loved the Maryland-style blue crabs! The price for sharing mussels to start, wine, two orders of crabs, and cheesecake and coffee was under $90. As for ambience, the place has a lot of Queens and boxing memorabilia and has a generally good feel to it. Also, there was music to aid the digestion; they had a guy singing Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, and Barry White tunes.
Pros: Blue Crabs, Inexpensive, Large Portions
