This is the quintessential neighborhood Pizzeria in Long Beach. There is a reason why Domenico's is always busy, while other 2nd Street joints are only half-full. The reason is that this place knows how to please. The best pizza on Earth, great new pasta dishes (the sausage tomato cream and chicken basil cream are to die for), their legendary house salad, comfy booths, and a staff that actually cares make the difference. Where else can you go to where the food is always good, and the owner comes by to check on things regularly? Don't come to Domenico's unless you are willing to become a regular customer, because that is what will happen. This is the anti-chain restaurant experience!
Pros: Ultimate pizza, ultimate salad, nothing compares!
Cons: Belmont shore lacks parking, crowded on weekends

My fiance and I live near 2nd street and go to Papa Lucci's at least once a week. We decided to spice it up tonight and try Domenico's because we kept seeing the sign "voted best Italian." First of all there was a 20 minute wait, not bad for a late Saturday night, but that gave the perception that there was something to actually wait for (albeit we had a good time playing checkers while we waited). We had minestrone, house salad, garlic bread, a small pizza, and the "half and half" (half spaghetti, half portobello mushroom ravioli both with marinara). The salad was pretty good with the house garlic dressing, everything else tasted marginal- like store bought- nothing special. My fiance doesn't want me to write this (because we don't want our favorite place to get crowded)...but...do yourself a favor and go to Papa Lucci's! Their salad (included with pasta- unlike at Domenico's) is better, better quality and fresh ingredients (they use a real parmesan not the stuff that comes in a green can), bianca bread is so fabulous, the rigatoni with tomato basil and olive oil is TO DIE FOR, and all pastas taste homemade, the calzones are great (and better prices).
Pros: Marginal Italian, Good House Salad
Cons: Parking, Marginal Italian

My girlfriend, Martha, introduced me to Domenico's in 1956 and that's when Domenico would meet you at the door. They have had a couple of different owners over the years and they have all been true to the original recipes of Domenico. I was in Domenico's this last week with another Poly High alum and the new owner introduced himself to us and told us how dedicated he was to all the original recipes. We drive 220 miles from Pismo Beach for this salad and pizza. I have been in the restaurant business and this is a winner.
Pros: All food, excellent. Salad and Pizza is why you come to Domenico's
Cons: Parking; it's Belmont Shore.........

I have been dinning at Domenico's since 1954. Now my children and grandchildren are customers. The pizza (sausage, mushrooms, and onion cooked on the crispy side) is the best anywhere. The romaine salad has always been my favorite too. As a teenager in the '50's, I worked for Domenico and Beverly and I still think it is the best.
Pros: Comfortable, friendly, and good service
Cons: Parking

What planet are you people from? The pizza was very disappointing. As their menu describes -- when making the pizza, first they put the cheese, then they add the sauce on top of the cheese. The aftermath is a bland, soggy, pizza-like concoction. Yes, their sauce is very tasty but what's missing is the baked, bubbly flavor of the cheese. The service, spaghetti with marinara, and minestrone soup were very good.
Pros: Value
Cons: Pizza
