I recently had the pleasure (yes... i said "pleasure") of having Lauren come out to fix a broken window and replace all the screens on our home. After calling a bunch of other places in long beach and not even getting any decent answers or quotes, I had FAST GLASS come out for a free quote. Lauren has been doing this a long time and he welcomed me to observe all his work while we chatted about long beach and its history. It's clear that he enjoys what he does and that means the quality of his work is just as important to him as it is for his customers. 24 hour availability, reasonable prices, prompt service, and a great sense of humor all add up to the best window guy in long beach, hands down.
It was refreshing to finally have someone come out to do work on the house and NOT give me the impression that they were just trying to filter as much money from me as possible (you all know how that feels.)
Like i said, it's the closest thing to having a friend do the work for you.... unless you actually have a friend who does windows. = ) Now.... if i could just find a mechanic like Lauren....
Pros: Tons of experience, personable, prompt, reasonable prices
Cons: there were no cons in my experience

Have been special ordering and buying from Don at Habitation for almost 7 years. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate - spend time with me going over ideas. I've never been disappointed. Is it possible to have a bad experience? Maybe. But this place is so much fun to be in, shop at and try things - and the staff is always nothing but helpful. I've been able to return a piece of furniture (albeit, not a custom job - no need to anyway, I've been pleased with all my pieces) that didn't work in my house.
The place is great - prices a great. I can't recommend Habitation enough. Budgets are considered. You can go in with an idea and an image - Don worked with me to create my pieces. Told me what was possible and what wasn't - even included things I didn't consider (because what do I know - I don't work with design and wood!)
If what you want can't be done for the budget you're working with, they'll tell you and will work with you to come up with something that will work.
So, you get an education and a nice piece of furniture! not bad, eh? I love Habitation. I tell everyone about it. If you want a home that reflects more of you, that is not like every other house on the block, then you need to check this place out.

"I love Elan!! I first discovered this hidden gem off 4th street during one of retro row's "art walks" on the last Saturday of the month. The atmosphere in this store was so festive and inviting that it drew me in and held me for over an hour. Even if you can't get free wine every night of the week there, you can certainly enjoy the bubbly banter of the owner and her friends. And I haven't even mentioned the merchandise! Each glance gives way to another novel piece of art, furniture or knick knack. I scored some awesome vintage necklaces for only $10 each and a sleek martini shaker/ice bucket matched set for about $30. Everything was very reasonably priced; sometimes the prices can be daunting at these retro shops, but not so at Elan. When I upgrade to a bigger apartment, you can be sure I'll head straight here for affordable, stylish furniture and maybe even one of the many wild light fixtures adorning the store. Make Elan your destination on 4th and I promise you won't be disappointed!!"
Pros: Great prices, delightful owner, unusual, stylish pieces
Cons: Around the corner on St Louis, right off of 4th... you have to follow the sign!

This is a wonderful store for anyone who enjoys cooking or baking. I much prefer shopping here than at a large department store. They have a good selection of good quality items, but you don't waste much time wandering around looking for what you need. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable.

this is the closest target store to csulb and i can see why it gets a lot of business. target is a fairly cheap store but with a great selection and name brand stuff. college kids love that... and i know that from first-hand experience as i am a college student myself. it is located in an outdoor shopping area, which i like a lot. very large parking lot too and the store always looks its best.

Nice selection of mattresses and futons with nice prices to match. I compared this place to three other stores' prices and they were the best. The service was really good too. The salesman didn't try to pressure or hurry us, he was very patient. If you are looking for a mattress try this place out.

Tiempo Furniture is a fantastic store if you are searching for hard to find wood furniture. They have a large supply of desks, cabinets and even neat unusual items like a four posted dog bed. The wood furniture is hand crafted and the quality shows. The prices are a little higher but the quality and durability makes up the difference.

Situated near a busy Community College area, the store remains quiet and inviting and the staff is helpful and courteous.
