Acres of Books is located in a vintage warehouse building on Long Beach Blvd. The doors swing open and you see hundreds of plain wooden bookstacks reaching to the ceiling. On each stack is loaded book shelved upright on sides and then smaller texts are tucked in around them. The store is organized with little paper tags that look like they are decades old. The original owner had to take on the city to keep his store and the new owners have kept the same casual look and tons of texts. Make sure you have hours of time to browse because the store literally has hundreds of titles in the smallest subtopic. The shelving is unique in that you might have a book that came out a few months ago shelved with a rare title on the same topic sitting side by side. The store also has prints and art plates taken from books. The staff is most helpful. Parking is on the street, but there usually is not a problem finding a place. Highest recommendation!

Acres of Books has been in business in Long Beach since the 1930s and has more than 1 million books in stock. A designated cultural landmark by the city of Long Beach, the bookstore is in its third generation of family ownership. This used bookstore has all kinds of books for readers and collectors. It’s full of nooks and crannies with books everything—and every time I go there I find an section I’ve never seen before. This place carries the most extensive book selection I’ve seen in California, and the employees really know their books and where they are.

I drive 30 miles just to go to this bookstore. It has a wide assortment of Bibles and does free name engraving while you wait. The prices can be a little high but are comparable to most Christian bookstores. There is a lot of artwork and a good sized Christian Music section. Staff are really helpful and encouraging. The atmosphere is great and makes a walk through the bookstore rejuvenating.

This is a pretty good place for studying. There's a starbucks conveniently located in the store, and there's a lot of tables for students to sit on and study while they drink their coffee. It's usually quiet when they study, until the employees have to turn on the blenders to make a frap for their customers. Also, if you get bored or need a study break, you could read one of the many of hundreds of magazines they offer. Also, there's a huge CD section in the store and you can sample a lot of the CD's. Oh, did I mention you can browse around and read books too? The only problem I have is the price of all their items. CD's cost around $15 to $20, while the same CD in walmart or Best Buy would cost $10 to $13. All books are pretty expensive as well, especially the hardcovers. I personally don't recommend buying books, but if you need a place to study, then go here.

Once Read Books is a store that you will want to come back to again and again. They have a small store nestled in busy retail area near the local community college. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and the choice of books is impressive. They specialize in books but they also have a nice selection of sports collectibles. The prices are reasonable and they have a great trade in policy so you can replace books you no longer want with books that you do want.

Planet Books is the classic used bookstore full of dusty old books and paperbacks. Planet specializes in science fiction, as the name suggests. They carry regular fiction and non-fiction of all varieties, too, and they have a modest selection of comics and periodicals. It's a fun place to rummage for an hour or so and maybe come up with something unusual. Science fiction fans should definitely check it out as they should find something to their taste, other readers may find it worth a visit as well.
