We had started off the night at the Rio Grande across the sidewalk. It was so awful that we sent our food back and left. Still starving, and now freezing, we went into this sushi joint. Great Halibut, great snow roll, good Phili roll. We also tried the sake (I personally don't like it but its not the restaurant's fault). Great service, great sushi - We live out of town and we will definitely make the drive to eat here! Staff knows the menu and knows how to recommend things. Not a fancy place, but has tons of charm! I would recommend this for a date! There was a large mix in the people eating there too. There was a family with good kids, a business man eating alone, a married couple, a couple on a first date...It was a very charming place.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

After the previous owner sold the restaurant to someone else the food quality started to change. We ordered a mongolian beef from the restaurant and it was plain nasty with lots of cooking oil, lots of msg and really really salty! This wasn't the issue but when I peeked in the restaurant it was MEXICAN cooking my chinese food!!! Excuse me? Chinese restaurant / Mexican cooking the food DOES NOT work!!!! Oh my god, the service was horrendously horrible!!! I called in for a reservation and they told me it would be fined with 15 guests and it turned out they don't even have our table ready and the host there barely speaks ENGLISH!!! She was rude and made to be very embarrass in front of my friends for recommending them to this restaurant! I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!! I agree with other reviewers that this restaurant was good but it was back then! I've been a customer for 18 years with the old owner and the new owner does NOT convince me to come back! HORRIBLE FOOD !! HORRIBLE WAIT-STAFF!!! If you want mexican to cook your chinese food then come here.
Pros: NONE
Cons: HORRIBLE FOOD/ SERVICE / IT SMELLS IN THERE!!

The staff is extremely well versed in all wines available at the store as well as food matches. The creativity with the four-packs are fun and their picks are right on. This place is small enough not to be intimidating yet large enough to offer a fantastic variety.
Pros: Great staff, Wine selection, Prices

If you like Chicago style hotdogs, be sure to try Woody's. They serve up delicious dogs with all the fixings. If the dogs don't fill you up, there's plenty of fries and rings.

Hands down my favorite place for Thai food in Denver. Yummy! The menu has plenty to offer and the wait staff are careful to make sure the thai spice is right for you. Although the dining area is not overly attractive, the friendly and attentive staff more than make up for it in your dining experience. We often phone in take out and have never had a problem with out order.
I also wish it wasn't closed on Sundays. Oh well!

I'm not an authority on authentic Thai food. I've never been to Thailand, though I've eaten in more than a few restaurants in America that purport to serve authentic Thai cuisine. In any event I can identify myself as a huge fan of those classics Pad Thai, Penang Curry, Green Curry, Chicken Satay and Basil Shrimp.
What I can say about Wild Basil, even if they've borrowed inspiration for their name from another notable restaurant in the south Denver area, is that this restaurant has guaranteed freshness. When I say freshness, I mean fresh beef, fresh chicken, fresh shrimp, fresh vegetables, fresh herbs, etc., etc., etc..
Do you take freshness and quality ingredients for granted? Well, if so, that's a bad bet. I've eaten at at least one restaurant that claims to be the best, or, at least, the most authentic Thai cuisine in south Denver, and I have personally experienced a lack of freshness in the realm of beef. As in, tough beef. As if that's a misdemeanor in Colorado.
Look, I'm not here to beat up on any sacred cows. I'm just saying, Check out an alternative that you haven't tried, that perhaps you haven't heard of. The Wild Basil -- it's all about the freshness. I'll leave it to Thai cuisine aficionados to chime in about the authenticity.
By the way, at The Wild Basil, when you ask for a dish Thai hot, that's what you get. They don't mess around -- Thai Hot means lots and lots of nasty little chilis chopped up in your Pad Thai. If you like it hot, no regrets -- no regrets guaranteed. At least none for your mouth or your nose or other orifices located at the north end.
Recommended wines: Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, depending on the dish. -- Dale Smyth
