My coworkers and I would go to Mely's 3-4x a week, but I will no longer go back! They give you an abundance of food, so we often split meals between 2 people.
Last week as I finished my food, a roach crawled out from under the garnish on my plate onto the table! When we told the bus boy, he simply smashed the roach and continued like nothing had happened. The manager did not care that we were upset, she simply told us they had exterminated the day before and the roaches were coming out of hiding. Initially, she didn't want to come over and apologize, but suggested the waitress give us a free dessert! Why would I want something else from their kitchen?
I am not the first person to have had a bad experience with roaches. Several other coworkers once complained about a roach crawling across the table and the waitor smashed it with a menu, then gave the menu to one of my coworkers!
The smell has been getting worse when you enter the restaurant and we often complain about stomach pain. This past weekend I was very ill and I do believe it has to do with contaminated food from Mely's.
Pros: Good Food
Cons: Smell, Roaches, Waitress

I don't know where the bad reviewers ate, I have been going to Mely's for years and never had bad service. The food is always fresh and good. I have been at different times of the day and the service has always been gracious and attentive. I have several friends that love their black bean enchiladas. Their queso with their fresh pico de gallo can't be beat. I had a pork dish the last time I was there, I think it was pork fajitas/al carbon with grilled pineapple and it was fabulous. Also, they serve all their plates very colorfully.

I'm not sure where some of these negative comments came from regarding the margaritas. Huhm, I always like my margaritas STRONG, and Mely's has always delivered. In fact, they serve some of the best margaritas I have ever tasted. Plus the location is convenient for League City residents; right across the street from the South Shore Harbour Marina.
Pros: Friendly Service, Big Portions, Fresh salsa & chips

We have a very hard time going more than one week without a trip to Mely's! Even our son (who certainly is not drawn by the yummy frozen margaritas) craves Mely's after just 7 days. Service has always been excellent. Andres was the first to remember our order, so we usually ask for him, but Edgar and Priscilla and Renee (and I'm sure the others) are all great. To newcomers: too bad you won't get to see some of the creative transformation - the intricate tropical mural on the wall in the bar is now a more neutral gold paint. The faux bricks and stones on the wall in the center dining room are now gone, but the room is gaining a new look. The creativity abounds and the transformations are fun to watch from week to week. Some friends were visiting in Spring from Central America and enjoyed the atmosphere. A 6-week old niece visting remained captivated by the artwork above her on the ceiling. My in-laws cannot stand a visit without a trip - and Andres miraculously remembered my father-in-law's drink order from his visit 6 months prior!!! When we first arrived in League City, we felt too much of the menu was covered in heavy cheese sauce or gravy, but the menu has continued to grow and we manage to have a variety of favorites: carne asada, tacos al carbon, enchiladas verdes, pollo loco, fajita nachos, chicken tortilla soup, . . . Add Mely's as your regular weekly dinner spot! - Oh - and the margaritas are potent - perhaps best to follow up the first with a Landshark or something more tame!
Pros: Service!! Creativity! Food! Convenient - we should really walk there
Cons: no patio space yet to enjoy nicer weather with our great service & food!

The food is average, nothing special, but nowhere near awful. I get chicken fajitas everytime. The portions seem to be getting smaller, but my brother and I can split fajitas for one.
Strange decor...not really Spanish?
Good overall.

I dont really understand all of the bad reviews about service , they all know me from going there so long maybe thats why the are always so nice. I always get the same thing, mixed fajita nachos and pour the queso all over them and it is delisious.

I will never go back. Dark and dank decor, pricey food. Do not recommend this place. There are so many others to choose from in the area. And the food was beyond mediocre. What a sorry excuse for Mexican food.
Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER
Cons: ALL

1. I am very disappointed with Mely's! I have lived in the League City area for 20 years and been to Mely's a few times. I keep giving it another try b/c I think to myself,"maybe it was just a bad day for them" Well it is official, Mely's has terrible food, terrible service, and it is WAY over priced! The waitress was ok except for the fact that two of the people accompanying me were out of drinks for way too long and there were only one or two other tables that she was waiting on. The food took entirely too long. When we finally got our food my husband?s plate was not what he expected. He ordered fajitas for one. His plate was made up of a heaping pile of onions and maybe 3 to 4 oz. of meat. We called a bus boy over, b/c we could not find our waitress, and he sent the manager over. She came over after a minute and immediately had a bad attitude. My husband explained that this is not what he expected. She said something to the fact that there is nothing she can do just because it wasn't enough or what he expected. He asked if there was anything she could do and she said NO. He told her he was not going to pay for this and he would order something different. Again she said NO. He ended up not eating his food. When we got the check I walked to the counter and asked the same manager to take the fajitas off and I walked away. My daughter and I went to the restroom and he got the check without the fajitas on it. Our family (of 3)?s meal was still a 65 dollar meal with out the fajitas. When she dropped the check off she told my husband they "did not need our business here again". Well, there were only six tables including us that night at what was supposed to be the dinner rush, so it looks like they did need business. (Although their high prices probably make up for that.) They will no longer get my friends or family's business!

first of all, the woman who owns this place should not be owning or managing a restaurant. i put in a to-go order a few days ago, but an emergency arose so i unfortunately was unable to pick up the food. a few days later i over heard some of the waiters talking (because i went there for lunch) saying that the owner tried to make the man who was working behind the counter doing "to-go's" pay for the food i didn't pick up. this infuriated me. i spoke to the man who'm had taken my order and told them that he'd better refuse to pay that, that it was ridiculous that he would be liable in the first place! i mean, that happens to a lot of restaurants, and if they are not in the right place financially to lose out on one to go order, that should not do to-go's period. not to mention, that the owner put a 15 YEAR OLD GIRL in a management position!! 15 year olds have no judgement! what if something bad happened and the police were called, does this owner expect her 15 year old manager to be able to respond with full knowledgable details to police officers?!?! anyways, i loved it, up until now. i will never buy another thing from there as long as i live.
