Yeah the ambiance is kind of cheesy, but the food is GOOD! A fun place to go that's away from the strip when you're in Vegas. The drinks and food are in large portions, I recommend the Seafodd Paella, and save room for desert.
Pros: good variety of food, large portions
Cons: shared parking lot-gets crowded

I JUST ATE AT THE FLORIDA CAFE. WHAT A GREAT PLACE. EXTREMELY NICE SERVERS THAT WILL HELP YOU WITH THE MENU. I WAS TREATED TO THE BEST ARROZ CON POLLO IN TOWN (RICE AND CHICKEN). MY WIFE HAD THE MARISCADAS (A BLEND OF SEAFOOD IN A DELICIOUS TOMATO SAUCE). AFTER DINNER WE HAD THE A DESERT THAT WAS CREATED BY THEM. IT WAS THE THREE MILK CAKE WITH FLAN ON TOP. WOW WAS IT DELICIOUS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY HAD TO USE A WHEEL BARREL TO GET ME OUT OF THAT. I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.

I have been eating here since 2003 and every time I return the food gets better and better. Usually when you eat at a caribbean restaurant out west it's okay...but it's not like home. I ate there this past Labor Day weekend and it was just like being home. The former manager is the current owner and she has done a wonderful job of improving the quality of the food. The accapurria is fantastic as was the arroz con candules, the breaded steak, los platanos, and the carne guisado...if you visit Vegas make your way to El Coqui. It's far better than some of the higher priced joints on the strip.
Pros: Tastes just like home
Cons: it's a 10 hour drive for me to eat here

O-kay there really isn't competition but still, they have great food. From the beef patties to the Jerk Chicken, to the plantain turnover. A fantastic tropical dining experience. A little hard to find, they are in a small plaza at the corner of Flamingo & Buffalo, were the Walgreens is. Also..Jamaican soda is so good..try the Ginger Beer.

this was a great place to eat! We went early on a Thursday for dinner. So we were seated right away. The restaurant was very clean. The staff very helpful and knowledeable. The food arrived quickly and the presentation was very nice! The servings are quite big and we could have easily shared a meal however we wanted to try different things. We ordered the Iranian stew which was wonderful their was a nice blend of seasonings, large "man" size portion. I ordered the classic chicken both came with rice and the chicken was cooked to perfectin still moist but fully cooked. The seasonigns were not overpowering yet they were full flavored. The hummus and pita we ordered as an appetizer was very good. The pita is made fresh daily ( another location) and they also have their own bread made on site daily also very good!!
Not completely new to
Persian Dining yet still a novice our wait staff was great in assisting us in ordering and the finer details of eating the food.
Their was music in the background but not ovepowering. It could be a ROMANTIC MEAL.
On weekends they apparently have belly dancing so I think we might like to go back during that.
Very nice experience!
Pros: food, service
Cons: none

This is my favorite Cuban restaurant in Las Vegas. I've been to all the others, especially the more commercial ones like Florida Cafe and Havana Grill, and while they are much better in terms of atmosphere and service, their food is also commercialized, which defeats the purpose of eating at a Cuban restaurant. This place is a small, hole-in-the-wall, where ordering in Spanish is the norm and you'll find more Cubans eating here than anywhere else. Having been raised on Cuban food made by my grandmother, a Cuban immigrant, this is the restaurant that comes closest to making food just like hers. I always get bistec empanizado/palomilla, no matter where I go, and while it is a simple entree, this restaurant serves it perfectly. I can't speak for other items on the menu, but I am sure they are similar in quality. The staff is friendly, and even more so if you actually speak in Spanish with them. Being in there reminds me of being at home.
Pros: authenticity of food
Cons: nothing that I can think of!

My husband and I relocated here from D.C. and we were finding Vegas to be almost devoid of restaurants with atmosphere and authentic ethnic food...that is, until we stumbled upon The Spirit of Cuba! This restaurant is a diamond in the rough...we were able to make reservations at the last minute and it was practically empty on a Saturday night. So, of course, I was expecting terrible food, terrible service, or both. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent - everyone was very friendly and attentive. And the food...the food was unbelievable! So delicious! I ordered the Bistec Empinazado, a breaded, fried Palomilla steak (thin sirloin sauteed in oliive oil, lime and spices), a good choice for the slightly less adventurous eater. It came with a hefty portion of rice, black beans and plantains (try the sweet plantains)! The food was authentic and delicious. One caveat to my review - timing is everything: in order to enjoy the terrific, live music on the weekend, you have to come after 8 p.m. If you come before that, your experience will lack the Cuban flavor that comes with live Salsa music. And for those who fear that the music will be annoying - no fear! It is just loud enough to provide an enjoyable background to your conversation...unless you are in the mood to dance in the lounge area. This restaurant is sure to catch on...be one of the first to discover it!
Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Live Music...
Cons: None

My wife had spoken to the manager in her capacity as banker, perhaps once or twice.
Arriving unannounced, we we're treated like royalty by female manager and wait staff.
Ordering based on manager's recommendation, our food was delicious.
I hope to return soon and often.
