Drove out from SoCal to attend the big Halloween party at Tao the Friday before Halloween...this was also supposed to be the Saw IV release party. This was my 2nd time at Tao (my 1st time, not being so good).
Now I've partied all over four continents so I do have a point of comparison. Let me just say that TAO SUCKS JURASSIC BALL SACK!!
There's more to a club than fancy d?cor and cute girls and yes it was packed; guess what, plenty of other clubs in Vegas can boast that.
So we got to the club in costume and witnessed the total unorganized mob scene where the bouncers stand out in front and take bribes. We had a package with Sienna and got escorted in by their hostess (good company). Once in, I immediately get berated by some bouncer, telling me to put my mask up (I was wearing an Obama mask for my costume). Apparently they didn't want anyone wearing masks in their club (or they were democrats). What?? Is this not a Halloween party? Without the mask, my costume was unrecognizable and pretty useless...of course no mention of this policy on their website.
We make it out to the main level which is filling up fast. First off, no sign (literally) of anything having to do with Saw IV so I don't even know why they mentioned it. Next we ask a bouncer where we sign up for the costume contest...one idiot sends us upstairs, another one sends us downstairs...clearly these people are even more confused than the mob. We sign up at a table where two very cynical people are handing out contestant numbers...they give us a supposed time when everyone is to be called up for judging.
Meanwhile I notice that the roof/pool area is closed (two times in two visits). I politely ask another bouncer why the roof is closed and my answer was, "BECAUSE IT IS!" Geeze, what an as*hole. Found out later that they closed it for the "winter" even though its nearly 80 degrees outside. And once again, nothing about the roof being closed on their website...funny, every other club had theirs roofs/patios open.
Still trying to enjoy myself; having a lot of fun with other folks who are dressed up and generally having a good time. Everyone is looser when wearing silly getups. So my costume turned out to be pretty popular and I posed with a lot of people for pics...ONLY to be pulled aside by yet another black-jacket storm trooper who threatened to throw me out if I put my mask back on again. Starting to get really pissed at this point.
Now comes the contest time... WTF?? NO calls, no judging, no audience participation... A couple of hand chosen (back room) candidates were walked out on to the balcony and declared winners. HUH? What is up with this place? I've seen fairer elections in Nicaragua.
Sooo... After finishing my last $15 drink, we decided to give Tao the finger and look for another venue.
My Recap:
Cover - Ridiculous
Patrons - Most people were pretty cool
Bouncers - Total Dicks!
Bartenders - No problems
Drink Prices - Outrageous!
Event - Completely unorganized (charley foxtrot)
Management - Couldn't give a sh*t about their customers...you're just a number.
ADVICE - Save your money and have a better time elsewhere. Still ten bucks for a double vodka redbull at Rain.
Pros: Nice decor, decent music, good crowd
Cons: Over priced, obnoxious security, disorganized

My gay friend was repeatedly approached by the bouncers at Tao nightclub and finally they escorted him out. The bouncer asked if he gay and told him that was why he was being kicked out but that his opinion did not reflect Taos opinion. I will never go there again and I suggest other people do not spend there money at a hate club!

I visited Tao in the Venetian believing it was a decent asian restaurant. I was quickly disabused of this notion.
Seating: I went on a weeknight with no reservation around 7pm. The place was empty - two tables seated out of perhaps fifty total on the ground floor - but the hostess made me sit and wait. This is to give you a chance to relax in their lounge area and get you to start drinking. Unfortunately for Tao their drink menu is particularly uninspired; half a dozen variations on flavored martinis at $14 each. A poor joke for the alcohol conniseur.
Waitstaff: The waiter I received was fairly obnoxious, not because he was rude, but because he wouldn't shut up and let me enjoy my meal. I don't really need a best friend who's always in my face telling me about what an awesome place I'm eating in. If the restaurant has style, good food, and is pleasing to be in, it will show through without being pimped every few minutes. For drink suggestions my waiter was quick to hard-sell Voss. If you've not had it, it's bottled water much like any other but with a prettier bottle and a higher price tag. A place that hard-sells water is more interested in its appearance to outsiders than in serving delicious food.
Meal: I went with blackened steak with udon noodles and was served a respectable noodle bowl. The meat was good quality but not otherwise noteworthy. Someone confused udon noodles with lo mein for my dish, a fact I giggled about for the next half hour to follow. Also ordered the scallop tempura; good, but would have been better if it weren't limited to two small pieces. Also ordered kobe beef sashimi. Somehow they've made kobe taste like roast beef. Seriously - go to your favorite deli, have them slice you off a piece of roast beef, and try them side by side. See if you can tell the difference.
I couldn't do dessert here; spending more money on average food with a pushy waiter isn't my idea of fun.
The interior was very pretty; the sumi calligraphy on the ceiling was quite fetching. Loved the buddha. While the place has style, it lacks ambiance, as you can hear other waiters pushing Voss on other tables full of tourists; you can see tables with unappealing $14 drinks all around; you can watch the cognitive dissonance set in as diners try to convince themselves they're having a great time.
They aren't. It's all style, no substance at Tao.
Pros: Nice atmosphere, loved the sumi calligraphy
Cons: Average food, pushy wait staff, too much scene

Well for one, it's not hard to find since the line is usually pretty long but it's actually not as daunting to get in as it looks. Once you get in, the downstairs is nicely spread out and it's a nice area to kick back and have a drink. On the other hand, the upstairs area at Tao is PACKED with people, along with additional VIP tables and a dance area. The drinks and service have always been great at Tao and it's a place I'd recommend to people but despite the price I'd also recommend table service there since the large crowd can get a bit overwhelming at times.
Pros: Good drinks, great place to reserve a table
Cons: Packed (especially upstairs), long lines, small dance floor

Tao is a place of pure unadulterated fun! Hot chics, hot waitresses handling our bottle service, great music and seemingly neverending club with three different DJ's and dance floors. Plus the decor's not half bad :-). Definitely would recommend Tao to anyone looking for a good time in Vegas and it didn't slow down all the way up to 5am when they had to push people out of the club.
Pros: Good music, tons of dance floors, hot chicks
Cons: Pricey
