I don't know about the west lansing location, but the east lansing location is sick. The waitstaff are either stoned or stupid and the food is gross. Everything is microwaved and way overpriced. Who wants to pay $17 for a small pitcher of sour margaritas? I dont know how this restaurant has stayed in business all these years.
Pros: Outdoor rooftop dining
Cons: poor service, poor quality food, meals way overpriced

Not sure when the glowing reviews were last written, but our recent experience there left us leaving in a hurry. Our waitress was a dingbat, took her 4-5 trips to get our food and drink orders, then brought us chips with no salsa. When our food arrived, it was completely incorrect, and contained additional ingredients not even mentioned on the menu. We also had to wait even longer for silverware. The beef filling for the burritos tasted more like breakfast sausage. The only thing we found good about the place was the salsa. Everything else was just horrible. Go to Taco Bell instead.

Best Mexican food in Lansing? Yes. Fantastic Mexican food? Not so much. Unfortunately, this area just doesn't have a breadth of Mexican restaurants. When you're here and have a hankering for Mexican, El Azteco is by far the best choice, but it may leave your craving not entirely satisfied. Eat on the roof on a nice day and have some of their deilsh margaritas, and it almost feels like you're on vacation!
Pros: Yummy margaritas, rooftop eating
Cons: Mediocre food

My wife and I ate at El Azteco. We went there the first time after receiving recommendations, but we were disappointed by the quality of the food. After a few months we decided to give it a second chance and went to another location, but it wasnt good there either. The dishes have way too much cheese, and the blandness of the food reminded me of hospital food. I am sorry guys, but you need to go to Mexico and taste real Mexican food, them come back here and fix your recipes. I understand that you had to accommodate a more U.S.-style (e.g. Taco Bell) way of eating Mexican food, but you have to realize that there are many people looking for more authentic, traditional Mexican cuisine. You don't have that at all.
Pros: Inexpensive, Sell beer, Good Service

PROS: The food, the food, the food!!!
CONS: A little dated, the buildings could use a little upkeep, esp. Lansing

The best of authentic mexican food. The chips are great, salsa good and margaritas amazing. Flautas are my favorite, but sometimes I get the variety plate, because everything is so very good. Try the cheese dip, it's good. And if you want a huge salad, the toppo salad is enough for 2 atleast. It's a pile. The cooking is very good and very authentic mexican fare!
PROS: Everything!
CONS: Can add up, watch for specials

Maybe I'm biased because I come from Texas, but I was not impressed with El Azteco. When I moved to Lansing, I had more than one person tell me it was the best mexican food. The food reminded me of Don Pablo's. While there I had the beef and cheese enchiladas and there was nothing overly spectacular about them. However, I did get to eat on the roof, and that was fun.
