I am a fairly recent client of APAW, so I want to be cautious in my review of it, but so far I have been very pleased. I think the vets are honest and caring. I think they also take extra safety precautions. The staff all seem to be true animal lovers, not just working there. The vets and support staff are always engaged in learning the latest in veterinary medicine through on- and off-site seminars, which inspires confidence. The hospital just added a new wing, and the new facility is clean and spacious. I have recently had a serious emergency with one of my cats, who had a complete blockage of the bladder, which is a life-threatening situation. I am very appreciative of Dr. Boyce's swift actions. She even came in after hours to check on my cat and gave me calls with updates on my his condition. Thank you! APAW is also rescue-friendly, and in my experience the staff will respond in good faith to emergencies with stray or rescued animals, which not all veterinary hospitals will do. I

I too was given a recommendation by my neighbors to take my dogs and cats to New Carrollton Veterinary Clinic. They have been great. Listen to them regarding the Lyme Disease vaccine. I came from an area with ticks and never had a problem. However, not long after I moved to this area, one of my dogs came down with Lyme Disease. They are very caring and helpful and I would recommend them to anyone with pets.

This vet was recomended by a neighbor and I am very happy with it so far. The place feels like a family and I am greeted everytime with a friendly smile. I took my dig there because he needed his puppy shots, flea medication, and heart worm medication. They gave him extra vaccines for Lyme disease and kennel cough to be on the safe side which I am not sure if they were really neccissary so the bill was very pricey, but I compared the prices to another vet and they are about the same. You pay ofr what oyu get and this office goes the extra mile for their patients.
PROS: caring staff, friendly environment, thourough examinations
CONS: price

I switched to New Carrollton Veterinary (now called APAWS) after unpleasant experiences with Beltsville Vet. Hospital in Laurel. I have been very pleased with the services my dogs have received from this place. The vets took their time to evaluate my dogs and discussed their findings/results throughoutly with me. I never felt rushed or pressured.
I strongly recommend you this place!

APAW was recommended to us when we moved here in Nov 2007. We went, and I liked the service we received. Everyone was friendly, and we were seen in a timely manner. However, I have run into trouble over and over when I have tried to fill my dogs prescriptions online. First, they refuse to fax the prescription, so when I placed an order online I had to physically go to the vet and pick up a written prescription. Then, when I tried to refill it, they said that my dog needed another ($50!) test before they would authorize the refill, even though she had the necessary test less than a year ago. Also, they require Bordetella vaccine every 6 months (which I have learned is excessive) but since they do not offer wellness/walk-in vaccines, you have to pay for a visit just to get the vaccine! My dogs vaccine schedule does not coincide with her annual exam, so that would mean paying for office visits 3x a year!

Good: I like the willingness to rethink the commonly accepted. For example, food recommendations and vaccination protocols are contraversial items, but the vets at this hospital are able to approach them with an open mind, putting their patients' health above their profits.. Bad: APAW is not cheap. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, especially on Saturdays and Mondays. Despite all this, I have a reasonable degree of trust in this hospital. I urge other pet owners to be proactive in their pets' health and to never blindly trust their vet, any vet.. Improvements: The wait could be shortened. A more holistic approach could be considered in my opinion, including recommending alternatives to prescription diets.. Other: I love all the vets! They are all ladies too, so no male egos to contend with:) Dr. Boyce saved my cat's life when his bladder was blocked and an urgent action was required. She came in after hours to look after him and gave me calls with updates, which is much appreciated. The Doctor and staff were also considerate and showed concern when I had an emergency with a foster cat, who wasn't even their patient. I am grateful to have APAW as my neighborhood vet..
