I used to frequent this place often several years ago. Then I moved to LA. Just went back for the weekend and I must say I am still very impressed. The food is great. There's a good selection of Sake and the decor is very modern. I highly recommend!
Pros: Food, Service and Atmosphere
Cons: A bit Pricey

I recently traveled to San Diego area and was initially very excited to try this place out from the other reviews I read online. Sadly it was a disappointment. The table that a friend and I were seated at was dirty, and not cleaned off. It took a while before we were greeted. Waiter was later welcoming, but not very attentive or informative. I had the combo mahi mahi and halibut, my friend had the closest thing they had to Udon. Food was served hot; a nice balance of flavor, presentation was artsy, reasonable portions. However is you are looking for TRADITIONAL Japanese cuisine (and I have had more than my share of Japanese food), then this is not the place for you. I know there are other more reasonably priced Japanese restaurants that will be more satisfying. Some of the guests were pretentious, and loud. There were a few spoiled and obnoxious little rich kids who were all over the place. These are not exactly qualities that are conducive to relaxing dinner out. Decor and ambiance were impressive, but I guess looks don't make for a great restaurant! Who knows... someone else may think of this place as great find, but for me, this is not worth a second visit.

I've eaten there many times and have always had an excellent meal. Friends always love it. We only order tapas (unless one of the guys wants a steak) and share about 5 of them between a group of 4 then get one of their FAB desserts. My favorite tapa is the amazing scallops on potato cakes. We always valet park and so never have a problem. This should be reserved for special nights out and you won't ever go wrong. Great place to take a valentine but make reservations if you want a booth or special table.
Sister restaurants with equally great food are: Blackhorse Grille and FRESH.

The best reason to go to Roppongi is for their half priced tapas menu – every day from 4pm to 6pm. Enjoy culinary delights such as their signature crab stack, seared ahi tuna, pan seared sea scallops and so on. Around 20 in all. All half priced. The only caveat, the drinks are tripled in price – kidding! These are all appetizer sized portions, best for 2 to share, though you could share on plate among up to 4 people. You could make a great meal out of just these (order 2 or 3 per person.)

Roppongi's is home to one of La Jolla's finest dining experiences. A romantic atmosphere, superb design, and hearty meals make this place a top notch destination for anyone in the area. Parking is a pain, and price is a little steep but it is on par with other restaurants in La Jolla....so check it out!
